Round 10 in the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Mens competition had only three games on Saturday but there was plenty of goals to enjoy. 23 goals to be exact which saw another change at the top of the table and the fight for the top four continued. Let’s get onto the review!

Phoenix Futsal Club 2 defeated by SD Raiders Futsal 4

SD Raiders Futsal put together a stirring comeback to defeat Phoenix Futsal Club 4-2 in their contest at The Centre – Dural on Saturday afternoon.

Phoenix Futsal Club were in firm control in this contest after leading 2-0 at half-time thanks to goals from Jay Daynes and Cody Peluso. The hosts were unable to hold on and sunk to their sixth loss of the FPL2 Open Mens season.

This result for SD Raiders Futsal snaps a two-game losing streak and sees them head back to the top of the ladder. Simon Nicholas got them started before a spectacular Jordan Figon goal and an own goal put them in front. Sebastian Malfara confirmed the win with a late goal.

Heading into the final month of the season, both teams knew this contest was important for their chances to get into the top four and lift the trophy.

The first chance of the game fell to the visitors. Some quick thinking from the kick-in ended up on the foot of Clay Tani who fired wide of the mark.

It was another set piece which saw Phoenix Futsal Club respond with their first chance. The corner ended up with Jordan Metcalfe whistling wide of the goal.

SD Raiders Futsal started to find their groove in the contest. They had a flowing move which saw them shoot wide then Matthew Joseph rattled one against the post.

Joseph was involved again in a good move from the visitors. This time he bounded on goal but was denied well by Phoenix Futsal club keeper Joshua Moore.

Phoenix Futsal Club used the momentum from that save for their best chance of the early going in this contest. Top scorer Jordan Smylie somehow hit the post from close range.

The hosts did find the opener six minutes from the end of the first half. Jay Daynes was on the end of the move for Phoenix Futsal Club to slot home, making it 1-0.

It was quickly double delight for Phoenix Futsal Club. They broke quickly down the pitch and Cody Peluso provided the deft finish to make it 2-0 and have an upset brewing.

Looking to pull back a goal, SD Raiders Futsal finished the half with a flurry of chances. Tanti shot straight at the keeper then Simon Nicholas did likewise as they trailed by two at the break.

SD Raiders Futsal found the perfect start to the second half through Nicholas. The captain stepped up to fire home after a wonderful pass from Jordan Figon to make it 2-1.

Phoenix Futsal Club aimed to restore their two-goal advantage with a pair of chances to Metcalfe. He missed a chance at close range then scooped the ball over the bar.

The visitors made use of the chance and equalised through an own goal. It was a good passing move which took a last touch from a Phoenix Futsal Club defender for 2-2.

Two minutes after equalising SD Raiders Futsal took the lead in spectacular fashion. Sebastian Malfara whipped in a pass which Figon back heeled into the net for 3-2.

All the running was with SD Raiders Futsal. Malfara led the way for his side and scooped a chance over the bar as they searched for the insurance goal.

Headed into the final ten minutes, both teams put in a big effort to find the next goal in the game. Phoenix Futsal Club looking for the equaliser to give us a grandstand finish.

In the end, SD Raiders Futsal snapped their two-game losing streak with a well deserved goal for Malfara in the final minute to make it 4-2.

Boomerangs FS 7 defeated Sydney City Eagles 1

Boomerangs FS were in fine form in their 7-1 win over Sydney City Eagles down at MPowerdome on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts are riding a huge wave of form recently and continued that with a big win that has them sat in fourth place on the FPL2 Open Mens ladder. Jake Wilsener was the only player with two goals netting in either half.

They have scored six or more goals in four of their last five wins which will hold them in good stead for the final stretch. Jayde James-Ward opened the scoring while William Manalo, Stefan Vucic, Michael Rinaudo and Leon Michl all found the back of the net.

Sydney City Eagles were unable to build on their huge win last weekend but remain in a good position to make the FPL2 Open Mens top four in a month. Patrick Antelmi built on his double from last week with the Eagles only goal in the first half.

South Coast Taipans 8 defeated Sydney Futsal Club 1

Finishing off the weekend was South Coast Taipans triumphing 8-1 against Sydney Futsal Club at UOW Sports Hub on Saturday night.

South Coast Taipans responded to their loss last week in fine style with a seven goal win at the snake pit which has become a fortress for them. Matthew Mazevski led the way with the final five goals which takes his tally to 15 for the season.

The other scorers for the Taipans were Cody Waller with a pair of goals and Kyle Del was the other player to find the back of the net. Coach Bobby Mazevski was happy with the side’s win but knows they need to get on a roll to make the playoffs.

Sydney Futsal Club fell to their eighth loss of the FPL2 Open Mens campaign but did find a goal in the first half through Luca Feijo in the 24th minute. The visitors are out of the running for the top four and aim to play spoiler for the next few weeks.
