Round 12 in the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Womens competition saw us crown the Premiers in the division – Boomerangs FS and it was another action packed weekend. All four games had plenty of goals and drama to enjoy as we head into the finale. Let’s get onto the review!

Sydney Futsal Club 1 defeated by Sydney City Eagles 2

Sydney City Eagles soared late to take a 2-1 win against a gallant Sydney Futsal Club side at MC of Indigenous Excellence on Sunday afternoon.

Sydney Futsal Club felt for a long period of the game that they would take three valuable points and get themselves right into the mix for the top four. Tiarne Schuman opened the scoring while Natalie Milenkovski made some crucial saves across the game.

It seems like Sydney City Eagles are the comeback kids of the FPL2 Open Womens competition with another come from behind result. Emma Voloder and Melina Manna found the back of the net in the win which has them solid in third spot.

This was a battle between two sides hoping to make the top four and it started in cagey fashion with the two sides trying to feel each other out.

The game needed a goal to open it up and Sydney Futsal Club were able to find the back of the net. Annalise Schiraldi threaded through a pass for Tiarne Schuman to slot home for 1-0.

Conceding spurred Sydney City Eagles into action. They started to string together some passes and Alanah Nicholas had a chance which was saved.

Once again for Sydney Futsal Club, Schuman was at the heart of the action. She was set up again from Schiraldi but this time, the effort flashed wide of the goal.

The Eagles finished the half with a flurry of chances to try and equalise. Sofia Sollecito swept wide from a kick-in then Alyssa Zuvela was denied by Sydney keeper Natalie Milenkovski.

The visitors had a pair of chances in the 23rd minute where Zuvela turned well and shot over then Emma Voloder’s effort was punched away by Milenkovski as the game went to the break, 0-0.

Coming out of the break, the Eagles kept their foot on the accelerator in search of a goal. Zuvela again was central to the action and fired wide.

Sydney Futsal Club had a chance to double their delight on the counter. They swept down the court quickly and it ended with Natalie Marchese shooting straight.

This started a series of chances for the home side. Marchese was denied well by Eagles custodian Isabella Sollecito then the follow up was fired over.

As the game opened up and the clock continued to tick down, both sides threw their best shots at each other. Mia Nataly scooped over for Sydney Futsal Club then Montana Bolzan shot straight.

The Eagles eventually found the equaliser in the 46th minute. Smart work from the kick-in saw Voloder poke home to make it 1-1 and set up a grandstand finish.

The equaliser emboldened the Eagles. The visitors surged forward to try and snatch all three points but the Sydney Futsal Club defence were bending but not breaking.

Their hearts were broken again by the comeback Eagles. Voloder turned provider from the kick-in and directed the ball right on the foot of Manna to snatch a 2-1 win.

Post-match the Sydney Futsal Club coach would have been happy with the effort from his side to match it and even hold the lead against the Eagles for much of the contest.

For Sydney City Eagles coach Anthony Tomelic, he was happy with the second half from his side who have started to become comeback queens:

“We started off slowly, first half weren’t moving the ball around well. We moved it around quicker in the second half and came back. It is the third week in a row for us which is great to see.” said Tomelic.
