All roads led to Sydney’s South-West for an early taste of final in Round 12 of the Futsal Premier League Open Women’s competition.

And it delivered a spectacle with five goals scored for either side. Elsewhere Mascot Vipers took the competition lead with a convincing victory and Dural Warriors held Eastern Suburbs Hakoah.

Dural Warriors 1-1 Eastern Suburbs Hakoah Futsal Club

Dural Warriors and Eastern Suburbs Hakoah shared the spoils in a potential preview of finals action, Saturday afternoon.

The result gives Dural Warriors that little bit of breathing room as Campbelltown City Quake approach behind them.

In contrast, it’s a frustrating one for Eastern Suburbs Hakoah who lose touch with Mascot Vipers above them.

Opening the game it was the visitors who controlled the opening period of play with Alexia Karrys-Stahl scoring an early goal six minutes in.

However, they would be left frustrated by the efforts of Sarah Easthope who proved hard to put the ball past in the Warriors net.

And her efforts would prove crucial as they were to find an equalizer after the break, Rachel Perrins the scorer of their goal in a much improved effort for the hosts.

With seven minutes remaining after that goal, both sides went in search of a winner but they couldn’t be separated by fulltime.

Eastern Suburbs Hakoah host Inner West in a crucial club championship fixture next weekend, while Dural Warriors will be favourites against Mountain Majik.

Campbelltown City Quake Futsal Club 2-3 UTS Northside Futsal Club

UTS Northside all but secured a finals position with a victory over Campbelltown City Quake in Sydney’s Southwest.

For 45 minutes, it was a textbook performance for Grant Lynch’s side who gave themselves a three goal buffer. However, they were made to sweat late on as the Quake effectively used a powerplay to their advantage with two goals nearly giving them a spectacular comeback.

As indicated in the previous paragraph, the visitors started well in this one. And after a few opportunities, they opened the scoring on ten minutes through Emily Bastow. Bastow finishing after Jenny Hill cut the ball back to her.

Slowly the Quake worked their way into proceedings with Libby Morris having their first chance shortly after. Which was followed by their first clear cut chance in which Peta Trimis tested the Northside keeper after Tegan Bertolissio played her in.

That period of positivity was quickly brought under control though by the visitors who finished the half a goal up.

Action was aplenty in the opening quarter hour of the second half but it was to take a bit longer for the goals to start flowing.

UTS scoring two quick goals with just under ten minutes remaining, the second coming from basically nowhere as a shot from wide right took a deflection which snuck past the Quake shot stopper.

A third quickly following after that, Daisy Arrowsmith the scorer of that one who finished off after a burst forward.

That goal forcing the hand of the Quake who really needed to avoid defeat, activating the powerplay. A call which almost saw them pull off an unlikely comeback. Linda Dudek scoring their first with a powerful finish.

Before Madeleine Malone scored their second while acting as the fifth player forward, Peta Trimis grabbing that assist.

It wasn’t enough though as UTS Northside hung on in the final seconds for their 7th victory of the season.

Inner West Futsal Club 0-4 Mascot Vipers

Mascot Vipers took the outright competition lead with a victory over Inner West at Valentine Sports Park.

It’s the first time that Mascot Vipers have taken to the top of the standings in 2022 and they did it in style with a convincing victory.

With only seven players on the team sheet, the Vipers had to dig deep and they opened the scoring inside ten minutes through Tess Quilligan with her 7th goal of the Open Women’s season.

A lead which was doubled nine minutes later through Sarah Moore who kept her account ticking with her 9th goal of the campaign.

With the more experienced players finding the net in the opening half, it was then time for the younger legs to take over. Which saw Mikayla Nuong continue her hot scoring form, backing up last weeks hat-trick with a brace in the second half here, scoring twice in the final ten minutes to seal the victory.

Mascot Vipers host Campbelltown City Quake next weekend, while Inner West face the tough task of Eastern Suburbs Hakoah in round 13 action.

Enfield Allstars 2-2 Mountain Majik Futsal Club

Enfield Allstars came from behind late to take the points off Mountain Majik in an entertaining fixture at Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre.

A solitary goal for the visitors put them ahead by the half and on track for a second victory of the season. However they were to be pegged back twice in the second period with Enfield’s second goal coming in the final minutes of the match.

Dural Warriors await the Majik next weekend, while Enfield Allstars travel to face UTS Northside.

R4 Result: Enfield Allstars 2-3 Campbelltown City Quake

A player with the surname Lobo scoring in a game involving Enfield Allstars but wait there’s a twist! Campbelltown City Quake kept their finals hopes alive with a victory over the Allstars in a catch up fixture played Sunday.

Enfield took a surprise lead in this one after six minutes, Sophie Hoban opening the scoring after Bianca Radman squared the ball to her.

A lead which lasted for ten minutes before Quake equalized. Libby Morris interchanging passes with Maya Lobo before spinning away from the keeper and finishing.

That was the score line at the break before Madeleine Malone added a second for the Quake. With Morris once again playing a role in the goal with an assist.

Enfield kept coming though and they equalized after the half hour, Sophie adding a second to her tally slipping it past the keeper.

Quake were to bounce back from that goal and their defeat the previous day though, Maya Lobo finding the net with a volley at an awkward height.
