Round 13 Review – Futsal Premier League 2 Open Women’s

Round 13 in the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Womens competition saw four away teams pick up wins in another exciting weekend of action. Boomerangs FS, West City Crusaders, Raiders Futsal Club and South Coast Taipans were the sides to take the points. Let’s get onto the review.

SD Raiders Futsal 0 defeated by Boomerangs FS 6

Boomerangs FS hit SD Raiders Futsal for six in their 6-0 win on Saturday afternoon down at Fairfield Youth and Community Centre.

This win was Boomerangs FS’ seventh clean sheet this season which an impressive number for the side who have already taken home the Premiership. Olivia Gurney fired home a hat-trick while Ella-Rose Brown, Madeleine Perceval and Michaela Thornton were the other scorers.

SD Raiders Futsal were game and kept their defence unbreeched for the first 20 minutes before the floodgates opened in the contest. They will look to finish off their season on a high against South Coast Taipans next weekend.

It was a tense opening to the contest between this two sides. Both SD Raiders Futsal and Boomerangs FS felt their way into the game before they got into the rhythm.

Boomerangs FS struck first through some individual brilliance from Olivia Gurney. She cut through the SD Raiders Futsal defence before she whipped the ball home for 1-0.

That goal spurred Boomerangs FS forward and they made it double delight quickly. Ella-Rose Brown with another weaving run from the visitors and made it 2-0.

Before the first two goals, SD Raiders Futsal had competed well in the game and held Boomerangs FS at bay for a majority of the first half.

The visitors added a third goal just before half-time. Madeleine Perceval was in good form across the contest and fired home the goal to make it 3-0.

Just after the half-time break, Boomerangs FS were well settled and found the back of the net for the fourth time in the game.

They held possession well before the move ended up at the foot of Michaela Thornton who swept the ball and made it 4-0 and boosted their goal difference further.

The fifth goal scored by Boomerangs FS might have been their best of the whole contest. It was a quick passing move which ended with Gurney tapping home her second goal for 5-0.

As the clock winded down, Boomerangs FS started to focus on helping keep their seventh clean sheet of the season and their twelfth win in the FPL2 Open Womens competition.

Gurney capped off the display from Boomerangs FS with her hat-trick. It was a another well taken goal from the attacker to make it 6-0 and round off the dominant win.

Sydney City Eagles 1 defeated by West City Crusaders 2

It was a big win for West City Crusaders in their 2-1 result against Sydney City Eagles at Thomas Hassell Anglican College on Saturday afternoon.

The West City Crusaders kept their finals hopes alive with this tense win against a solid Sydney City Eagles side. They were able to comeback from down 1-0 late in the piece with Page Williams and Tia Berg found the back of the net.

For Sydney City Eagles, they were understrength but held the lead for a majority of the game before the late comeback. Their goal game in the first few minutes through Maja Prostran for her first Open Womens goal of the season.

Sydney Futsal Club 2 defeated by Raiders Futsal Club 7

Raiders Futsal Club took a vital three points in their 7-2 win over Sydney Futsal Club at NC of Indigenous Excellence on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts took their solid performance from last weekend and started the game off in fine fashion with two goals in the first five minutes. It was an own goal which made it 1-0 then Cynthia Coghlan restored their advantage in the fifth minute.

Raiders Futsal Club took a huge step closer to a top four spot with their five-goal win which made it back-to-back wins for them. Nicole Ossio and Gemma Morgan both scored a pair of goals in the huge result.

Their other goal scorers were Nyssa Castillo who made it 1-1 for the visitors which helped them to lead 5-2 at the break. Gemma Bartolillo and Olivia Burke rounded out the display from Raiders Futsal Club away from home.

Phoenix Futsal Club 0 defeated by South Coast Taipans 2

Rounding off the weekend was South Coast Taipans winning 2-0 against Phoenix Futsal Club at The Centre – Dural on Saturday night.

Taipans coach Bobby Mazevski described this result as the side getting the job done after their loss last weekend to Boomerangs FS. Both goals were scored in the first half through Ellen Brown and Abigail Jordan in the result.

Phoenix Futsal Club battled hard but were unable to break down the Taipans defence and now have lost three games in a row. They have one final chance to take three points next week against Boomerangs FS at home.
