The curtain came down on the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Mens regular season in style as Sydney City Eagles were crowned Premiers. Round 14 saw 37 goals across the four games and plenty of fast and furious action to enjoy. Let’s get onto the review.

Raiders Futsal Club 1 defeated by Sydney City Eagles 6

The Premiership was decided and Sydney City Eagles were crowned in their 6-1 win over Raiders Futsal Club at Thomas Hassell Anglican College on Saturday afternoon.

It was a triumph done in style by Sydney City Eagles who led 3-0 at haf-time and never looked like being pegged back. Sam Perre fired home a hat-trick while Judah Cleur had a pair and sharpshooter Patrick Antelmi found the back of the net.

Raiders Futsal Club weren’t at their best in this game which disappointed coach Slaven Ljuboja but they have a chance for redemption in the finals next week. Goran Ljuboja scored the only goal from a free-kick in the second half.

On an emotional afternoon where both clubs honoured former player Nicholas Hoenselaars and played for a cup named after him which set the stage for a big game.

Both sides started quickly but the Eagles swooped to take the lead after three minutes. Sam Perre was on the end of the movement and slotted home for 1-0.

Looking to double their advantage, Patrick Antelmi had a chance from a free-kick which was blocked then Goran Ljuboja swept one wide for Raiders Futsal Club.

That chance started a run of chances for the hosts. Adam Voloder had a pair of efforts, one with his foot then head as they aimed to equalise.

It was a wide open game between the top two sides in FPL2 Open Mens. Robert Perre shot wide then a trio of Raiders Futsal Club players in Voloder, Jovan Miladinovic and Tomas Medimurac all had efforts on goal.

Those missed chances came back to haunt Raiders Futsal Club when the Eagles took a 2-0 lead through Judah Cleur. He fired home from close range for his ninth of the season.

Soon it was double delight for Sydney City Eagles. It was one of their sharpshooters in Patrick Antelmi who flicked home from a corner for 3-0.

Raiders Futsal Club had a late opportunity to claw back a goal through Thomas Todd. He strode on goal but had the shot punched away by Eagles custodian John Dimitrakas.

Coming out of the break, Raiders Futsal Club had a rush of chances to claw back a few goals with the best one falling to Christopher Godoy Bascur who scooped his shot over.

The Eagles withstood the early onslaught and Robert Perre had a big opportunity on the break but rolled his effort wide of the post.

They did have a fourth goal soon after. Antelmi held up the ball well before he laid it off to Cleur who slotted home a second goal for 4-0 and his 10th of the season.

Goals started to flow for the Sydney City Eagles. Sam Perre went bardown for the fifth goal followed by a huge celebration as the Eagles went up 5-0.

Raiders Futsal Club did pull one goal back from a free-kick. Goran Ljuboja whipped the ball into the net and made it 5-1 and some faint hope.

That was quickly extinguished when Sam Perre responded with his own free-kick. He directed it home from the set piece for his hat-trick and made it 6-1 for the soon to be Premiers.

The hosts had a flurry of shots late in the game to add some consolation. Luis Ferreira went the closest when he whacked the bar with an effort but it would be Sydney City Eagles who ran out winners.

Post match Sydney City Eagles coach Roy Perre reflected on the win and the whole day for the club after taking the trophy:

“The motivation for today was to play for a young boy who used to play for the club and it showed in the boy’s effort, we weren’t going to be beaten today. Both our keepers were brilliant and I think we have our defence down pat. The Minor Premiership is the big thing for me even if we are knocked out and it still means we’re Minor Premiers.” said Perre.

For Raiders Futsal Club coach Slaven Ljuboja, he was disappointed about the result but they do get a chance for redemption next weekend:

“It wasn’t good enough and didn’t start well enough. It was 3-0 before we could even look up tonight. We talked about them being a bunch of shooters and we stood off them and allowed them to do just that. We have a chance to get revenge in the finals next week now.” said Ljuboja.
