Dream come true for rising young NSW stars in Turkey

As many as eleven NSW based rising stars capped off a memorable few days following their involvement with the Australian Under 17’s side in the recent U-17 Antalya Youth Cup held in Turkey.

Coach Brad Maloney, a NSW born coach himself and ex-Socceroo who played for the likes of APIA Leichhardt, Sydney Olympic, Marconi Stallions and Parramatta Power in the old NSL days, used this tournament as precursor for his squad’s AFC U-17 Asian Cup later this year.

Drawing 0-0 with Czechia in their first match, defeating Morocco 2-1 with goals from NSW boys Mitchell Glasson and Aden Green in the second game before falling to Uzbekistan 2-1 in the final match, Maloney took many positives having seen first-hand how each player adapted to playing international football.

Football NSW’s Player Development Manager for the Boys Phil Myall was delighted to see so many promising young NSW players make their mark in Turkey.

“We’re very proud to see so many NSW junior players progressing and having success on the international stage.

“Five of the eleven players from NSW (Aden Green, Jacob McLachlan, Mitchell Glasson, Zac De Jesus and Andre Parkes) in the squad came through the Talent Support Program (TSP)/NPL NSW club pathway, which we believe shows the value of the TSP in identifying and giving extra support to those players who currently sit outside the A-League pathways here in NSW.”
