Last week North Bankstown Soccer Club was the first club in Football NSW to be recognised by Football Australia as a 1-star Game Changer Club.

“It was fantastic to work with both Football NSW and BDAFA to assess the areas we could work on as a club in the Women and Girls space,” said North Bankstown SC Club President Catherine Kearns.

“As a result, we are planning to run a Daughters and Dads program as well as capitalizing on the upcoming FIFA Womens World Cup to increase participation rates for females in our club.

“Game Changer is a fantastic tool that assists grassroots club with problem solving issues all clubs face such as facilities and volunteerism as well planning for the expected increase in female participation post FIFA Women’s World Cup.”

Bankstown Football Associations General Manager Leanne Millar was delighted to see one of her very own clubs gain such an accolade.

“It is great to see that one of BDAFA’s clubs in North Bankstown Soccer Club was the first club in the Football NSW footprint to be awarded as a 1-star Game Changer Club.

“Catherine and Mark do great work in the area and are always looking at ways to improve their offerings.

“Game Changer gave me an insight into what the club wants to focus on moving forward and allows the association to support where they can. I would urge all BDAFA clubs to reach out to Trevor at Football NSW and get involved.”

While finally Football NSW’s Program Manager – Club Development Trevor Huxley expressed his thoughts on this milestone victory for North Bankstown SC.

“Game Changer is the Australian Sports Commission and Football Australia’s new club development platform, it was great to spend time with North Bankstown this week and to chat all things facilities and volunteering shortages.

“As a result of becoming a Game Changer Club, North Bankstown now have great opportunities to work with both the Football NSW Community and Legacy teams to be involved with upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup activations.

“I would urge all clubs in NSW to reach out to get involved as I am here to support, collaborate and problem solve, provide resources and share best practice. Game Changer is a fantastic program to initiate positive change.

“The Game Changer process requires clubs to complete Women & Girls module and then to develop an Action plan for the next 12 months, which is focused on creating opportunities for the development of female football. Football Australia is building opportunities to further acknowledge and reward clubs that engage with the program, whilst further promoting Australia’s involvement in the FIFA Womens World Cup 2023”.
