Thanks to the NSW Government and the Football Legacy Program, the first group of female football administrators attended the Australian Institute of Company Directors short course – Governance for Not-For-Profit Directors at the Australian College of Physical Education last week.

Along with participants from a variety of sports including golf, lawn bowls, netball and surf lifesaving, the football group were provided with an understanding of directors’ fundamental compliance and performance-related roles and responsibilities, specifically in the areas of governance, risk, financial performance, and strategy.

One of the participants, Springwood United’s Secretary Jacqui Sherriff, was delighted having taken part in the course that will no doubt empower her to utilise the information at her club.

“The course content was very relevant and informative, and I have already encouraged others on our committee to attend if there are places available.

“The presentation of the course material was delivered in such a way to make it relevant to all of us and I have certainly taken away so much knowledge which will be invaluable in my current role and future positions.”

The female football scholarship winners on this course came from a range of clubs and associations including representative teams and regional locations.

They included the following participants:

  • Hilary Bingham (NSFA)
  • Stephanie Clarke (Sydney University)
  • Rene Dempsey (Springwood United)
  • Kathy Fahim (Epping FC)
  • Gail Macleod-Jones (Nepean FA)
  • Isabella Nimmo (Beecroft FC)
  • Nikki Riddle (Kenthurst Football Club)
  • Jacqui Sherriff (Springwood United)
  • Maria Zouros (South Coast Flame)

In 2023, Football NSW have over 350 scholarships to award across coaches, referees, volunteers and administrators.
