Invitation Teams Perform well at CHS State Championships

The NSW Combined High Schools State Football Championships were held at Cromer Park from the 9th to the 11th of May and for the second year in a row, both Boys and Girls Championships were held at the same venue, at the same time.

For many years the State Championships involved ten “Regions” or School Sports Associations.

West Darling School Sport Association entered the championships in 2016: this meant that the stable draw for 10 teams was complicated by an eleventh team. The compromise was to change the draw to twelve teams, the twelfth team to be a second team from the hosting sports association, or a CHS team of players invited from other associations.

The CHS Invitational Teams performed excellently at the 2023 tournament.

The Boys team were defeated in the final by a strong team from Sydney South West.

The Girls Invitational team won the Championship: the final provided exciting and skilful football with beaten finalist, Sydney East, contributing equally to the quality of the game.

The Girls Invitational Team was greatly strengthened by the inclusion of four members of the current Young Matildas Squad.
