State Cup Finals: Seaforth triumph in local derby

Seaforth FC took out the All Age Women’s State Cup 1-0 against local rivals Beacon Hills at Cromer Park on Saturday afternoon.

Seaforth FC add another trophy to their burgeoning trophy case with their win to round off the first day of State Cup finals. The goal came in the 13th minute through former Manly United FC player Corrine Winkler.

They were pushed all the way by Beacon Hill FC. They battled until the final whistle to find an equaliser, with their best chance falling to Nina Hall who forced Seaforth FC keeper Kierly Wiggins into a super save.

Both Beacon Hill FC and Seaforth FC strode onto Cromer Park looking to reign supreme and become the All Age Women’s champions.

Seaforth FC were the first side to register a shot. Kristina Reisinger found space in the box and piloted an effort wide of the mark.

They weren’t denied on their second chance. The corner was swung in well and Corrine Winkler was there to nod it home for Seaforth FC to make it 1-0.

Beacon Hill started to find some light in the contest. They had a shot through Madeleine Kennedy which flew wide of the post.

They continued to pile on the pressure in the attempt for an opener. Nina Hall shot straight then she teed up Kennedy, who couldn’t touch the ball home.

Coming out of the break, Seaforth FC felt just fine. Abbey Cosh weaved her way through the defence before her shot went straight to Beacon Hill FC keeper Kierly Wiggins.

Beacon Hill FC pushed forward to look for the equaliser again. Hall turned well before she had her shot tipped over by Seaforth FC keeper Kierly Wiggins.

They continued to surge up the field I their search. Olivia Winestock found some space inside the box and shot straight at Wiggins.

Beacon Hill FC racked up the corners as the time ticked away. The ball pinballed around and fell to Jessica Sekulich who shot straight.

Time was starting to run out for Beacon Hill FC. They kept their foot on the gas with Carly Ussher having a shot that went straight to Wiggins.
