Tigers legend Wilson gearing up for huge Sapphire Cup clash
Northern Tigers born and bred; Josie Wilson is hoping to win the inaugural Sapphire Cup with the side from North Turramurra this Sunday at Leichhardt Oval against APIA Leichhardt.
Spending almost 15 years with the Green and Whites, a proper club stalwart, Wilson will look to add a major trophy to the Tigers cabinet.
With the opportunity to be the first name scribed on the Sapphire Cup, the Tigers players can’t wait for the game to start.
“The team is very excited ahead of the first ever Sapphire Cup final,” the Tigers vice captain said.
“After missing out on NPL NSW Women’s semi-finals by 1 point, we are out to prove a point and are really wanting to come away with the win.”
Wilson is pleased about the introduction of the tournament to the women’s game and what it offers can offer to players and clubs.
“The Sapphire Cup has been a really exciting tournament so far, it has been great to see different teams from a range of levels play against each other,” said Wilson.
“Being the first ever winners of the competition would be an amazing legacy for Tigers and I’m excited to see how the Cup develops over the coming years.”
Only a few weeks ago the Tigers came up against APIA in the league and were defeated 2-0, the defender isn’t paying too much attention to that game.
“We have been focusing on ourselves in preparation for this game against APIA and haven’t been focusing on the last score against them,” she said.
“The team is confident that if we go out and play to our best we will come away with the result.”
In saying that, Wilson has major respect for what APIA has achieved this season and payed homage to their grand final opponents.
“APIA has been the team to beat all season, they have a strong squad and will undoubtedly be a great challenge,” said Wilson.
“We respect their playing style but know we are a strong team that can definitely come away with the win.”
