The vibes are strong at St George FC as they head into the Grand Final and captain inspiration Nicole Besz is hoping to lead the team back to glory.

The Saints returned to the finals after a strong campaign which saw them provide some magical moments that saw them end fourth.

Besz is the captain of the historic club and takes the honour in her stride as she leads from the front for St George FC.

“It has been unreal to captain this club and an honour. It isn’t something I take lightly and every time I walk out on the pitch with the armband on is an amazing experience.” said Besz.

The season has been a rollercoaster for St George.

They sat second last early before they marched to the finals which Besz put down to their vibes.

“Vibes has been a big word in our squad this season. We enjoy each other’s company both and off the field which shows in our games.”

“We have such a good mix of older players with some talented youth which have come through to pull the team together.

That mix has helped them be dubbed the “comeback queens”.

St George FC are a team that have fought tooth and nail for the full ninety plus extra time this year.

“Some of those comebacks have been highlights of my season. Nothing brings a team together like scrapping for draws and wins.”

St George FC had a goal to make the semi-finals in 2023 and battle for promotion. They achieved the former and missed out on the latter but have left their mark.

“I think we’ve shown who St George FC are this season. We worked hard to get to this point, and it gives the youth something to look up to going further.

“We have four out of the five teams through to the Grand Final this weekend which shows how good the season has been for us.”

The Grand Final is set up to be 3 v 4 in the League One Women’s competition which shows how competitive the season has been.

Besz is looking forward to the occasion.

“Both teams will bring their best to the game on Sunday night, and I think it will be a fantastic game.”

The League One Women’s Grand Final will be streamed live on NPL.TV on Sunday night for those who can’t make the game. Eric Subijano will be behind the microphone for the game.
