Futsal Premier League 2 Open Men’s Round 10 Review

Round 10 in the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Mens competition gave us a bit more clarity in the chase for the top four spots. There are five teams fighting for four spots after another weekend of fascinating futsal games. Let’s get onto the review.

Match of the Round: SD Raiders Futsal 8 defeated APIA FC Futsal 4

SD Raiders Futsal won 8-4 in a pulsating game against APIA FC Futsal at Thomas Hassall Anglican College on Saturday night.

The hosts made it three wins on the trot with another impressive win. Matthew Barkho led the way with four goals while Franco Maya contributed a pair of scores. Simon Nicholas and Dimi Petratos were also on the scoresheet.

APIA FC Futsal battled hard, but the damage was done to them in the first half. Arthur Demberi equalised to make it 1-1 before they were beaten. Guilherme Mazurkiewicz Pansonato, Italo Wanderley and Luiz Claudio Dos Santos Pereira Filho brought it back to 5-4 in the second half.

Both SD Raiders Futsal and APIA FC Futsal strode onto the pitch at Thomas Hassall Anglican College looking to take home three points.

The first chance fell to the visitors. Danny Martinez found some space behind the defence and scooped it over the bar.

SD Raiders Futsal hit the scoreboard with their first chance. Charles Abou Serhal whipped the ball into the path of Matthew Barkho to tap home for 1-0.

They continued to pile on the pressure looking to double their delight. Barkho turned wide then Franco Maya fizzed a shot wide.

APIA FC Futsal found an equaliser in the 6th minute. It was a scramble close to the goal and Arthur Demberi was there to sweep home for 1-1.

The hosts restored their lead in the 13th minute. Simon Nicholas strode forward towards the goal and curled it home for 2-1 SD Raiders Futsal.

SD Raiders Futsal made it 3-1 quickly after that. Maya controlled the ball well before he volleyed it into the net in the 17th minute.

APIA FC Futsal tried to get themselves back in the game through the fifth man. They tried to probe past the SD Raiders Futsal defence but couldn’t find a way through.

SD Raiders Futsal took advantage of the empty net and led 5-1 at half-time. Barkho rolled it twice into the empty net for his hat-trick.

APIA FC Futsal did pull back a goal before the break. Martinez went close from a kick then Guilherme Mazurkiewicz arrowed home for 5-2 in the 19th minute.

The second half started with another flurry of chances. Barkho weaved through the defence but fired wide then APIA FC Futsal’s Demberi went close.

APIA FC Futsal got themselves back into the game with a pair of goals in the 27th minute. Italo Wanderley made it 5-3 then Luiz Claudio Dos Santos Pereira Filho brought it back to a one-goal margin.

The post took a battering as the game started to open up. Clay Tanti hit the base of the woodwork for SD Raiders Futsal while APIA FC Futsal did similar.

The visitors went close to equalising through Kleber Capelozzi. APIA FC Futsal whipped the ball around before he tapped wide of the post.

SD Raiders Futsal benefitted from that miss and made it 6-4. Maya was able to poke the ball into the net in the 34th minute.

APIA FC Futsal pushed forward again to remain in the contest. Martinez thrashed wide then Pereira Filho went close when they went for the extra attack.

The hosts finished off a deserved win with two goals to make it 8-4. Dimi Petratos flicked home from a kick in for the seventh and Barkho added his fourth to round off the score.

West City Crusaders 10 defeated Sydney City Eagles 2

West City Crusaders won 10-4 against Sydney City Eagles in their game at PCYC Hawkesbury on Saturday night.

The Crusaders move themselves into third spot on the FPL2 Open Mens ladder with their sixth win of the campaign. It was the Eagles who struck first through Bruno Antelmi before Crusaders equalised through Kurt Elborough. He added a second alongside Stuart Gosling for 3-1 at the break.

It was all the hosts in the second half. Ryan Faulkner made it 4-1 in the 22nd minute followed by Kwadwo Boamah-Addai added the fifth. Faulkner completed his hat-trick for 7-1 quickly followed by Elborough adding his third of the game. Faulkner and Gosling put the Crusaders past 10 goals while Robert Perre got a consolation for the Eagles.

South Coast Taipans 10 defeated Phoenix Futsal Club 6

Leaders South Coast Taipans worked for a 10-6 win against Phoenix Futsal Club at Illawarra Hockey Centre on Saturday night.

The Taipans were made to work for three points against a dogged Phoenix Futsal Club team. The hosts made it 1-0 through Logan Mathie in the 6th minute then Jay Azzopardi equalised for Phoenix Futsal Club. Taipans took a 3-1 advantage into the break due to Matthew Mazevski and Mathie.

Coming out of the break, Phoenix Futsal Club felt just fine. Azzopardi and Richard Lee scored in the first five minutes to make it 3-3. Tyson Black put Taipans ahead again but a brace from Jordan Smylie made it 5-4 to the visitors.

South Coast Taipans showed grit to come back and take three points. Kyle Del equalised in the 32nd minute then he gave them the lead in the 33rd. Mazevski also struck twice to complete his hat-trick and make it 8-5. Lee pulled one back to make it 8-6 then Del made it a four-goal performance to round off the win.

Sydney Futsal Club 3 defeated by Raiders Futsal Club 4

Raiders Futsal Club won 4-3 against a dogged Sydney Futsal Club at NC of Indigenous Excellence on Sunday afternoon.

The win puts Raiders Futsal Club back into the FPL2 Open Mens top four headed into the final three weeks of the season. Luis Ferreira led the way for the visitors with his hat-trick and captain Slaven Ljuboja chipped in with a goal as well.

Sydney Futsal Club did well to battle back after they were down 1-0 at the break but couldn’t complete the comeback against the reigning champions.
