1200x630 futsal PL2 preview and review 2023 rd 14

Round 14 in the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Mens competition looks to wrap up the regular season in a neat bow before the finals start. There is still one spot in the top four up for grabs and the four games this weekend will help to sort it out. Let’s get onto the preview.

SD Raiders Futsal vs Raiders Futsal Club, Saturday 9 December 3:30pm, Thomas Hassall Anglican College

SD Raiders Futsal hosts Raiders Futsal Club down at Thomas Hassall Anglican College on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts missed their chance to secure finals football with a pair of losses in the double header weekend.

They have another opportunity on Saturday afternoon because if they get anything from this game they will take fourth position.

SD Raiders Futsal have plenty of firepower in their line-up including Carl Skobla who scored twice in their defeat to Crusaders.

Raiders Futsal Club had a mixed weekend with a win against the Eagles and losing to leaders Taipans in their two games.

The defending champions have booked their spot to the finals and will get a chance to go back-to-back next weekend.

The combination between Jovan Miladinovic and Tomas Medimurac might be key to their success in this game.

Phoenix Futsal Club vs West City Crusaders, Saturday 9 December, 5:50pm, The Centre – Dural

Phoenix Futsal Club welcome West City Crusaders to The Centre – Dural for their game on Saturday night.

They will head into this game confidently after their 6-4 upset win against APIA FC Futsal last Sunday night.

Phoenix Futsal Club will look to finish a tough season on a high and win their fourth game of the campaign.

Reserve keeper Emlyn Cross showed off his full range of skills with four goals across both games last weekend.

The Crusaders won both their games in the double header weekend and scored a combined 23 goals in them.

Last time they met, the Crusaders won 9-5 against Phoenix Futsal Club and they will want to complete the series sweep.

They will look to Ryan Faulkner and Stuart Gosling to the lead the attack and warm up for the finals next weekend.

APIA FC Futsal vs Sydney Futsal Club, Saturday 9 December, 6;20pm, Valentine Sports Park

APIA FC Futsal face off against Sydney Futsal Club in their game at Valentine Sports Park on Saturday night.

They featured in the Match of the Round last weekend losing 12-7 to Crusaders which dented their finals hopes.

APIA FC Futsal don’t have their destiny in their own hands and will need SD Raiders Futsal to lose to possibly beat them to fourth spot.

The hosts will look towards their dynamic duo in Guilherme Mazurkiewicz Pansonato and Luis Claudio Dos Santos Pereira Filho to lead the way.

Sydney Futsal Club won back-to-back games and moved into sixth spot on the FPL2 Open Mens ladder after the weekend.

They have shown in patches that they can compete with any team and hope to build on this for a better campaign in 2024.

It was a big weekend for Dion Kellis and James Tsokos who found the back of the net regularly in their two wins.

Sydney City Eagles vs South Coast Taipans, Saturday 9 December, 6:40pm, Morris Iemma Indoor SC

Rounding off the weekend is Sydney City Eagles taking on South Coast Taipans at Morris Iemma Indoor SC on Saturday night.

The Eagles had a tough double header weekend with a pair of losses to Sydney Futsal Club and South Coast Taipans.

This game is a chance for the proud club to end their season on a high and beat a Taipans team that has swept all before them.

Shot stopper John Dimitrakis will be key to the success on Saturday night against a potent Taipans attack.

The Taipans confirmed the title last weekend after their 15-5 win over SD Raiders Futsal followed by beating Raiders Futsal Club the next day.

It was the culmination of a fantastic season for the Taipans who won their first FPL2 Open Mens title in style.

They will look to help sharpshooter Matthew Mazevski in his quest for the Golden Boot. He has 24 goals and leads the chasing pack by four goals.
