In the wake of a monumental year for Australian football with the success of the Matildas and Socceroos on the world stage, now, more than ever, Australians are set to be inspired to play football.

The newly launched 2024 Play Football campaign aims to connect not only players of all ages and backgrounds to their local football team, but encourage coaches and referees to join their local club or referees branch.

Football NSW registrations are now open for 2024 following what was a record-breaking 2023. More junior players registered to play during the winter competition season than ever before while Summer Football numbers grew by over 25%, buoyed by the incredible momentum built during the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™.

Football NSW CEO, John Tsatsimas, is excited about the year ahead.

“We have already experienced an unprecedented demand for football following last year’s hugely successful FIFA Women’s World Cup and we are ready to break new ground in our participation numbers for 2024,” he said.

“Whether it’s a player, coach, referee, or volunteer, football is for everyone and we look forward to seeing more participants, of all ages and abilities, join our game this year.”

With interest in the game at an all-time high, participants are being encouraged to register early with their local clubs to ensure they secure a spot for the 2024 season.

Over one and a half million Australians involved in football across the nation, it is the number one team participation sport in the country and continues to grow.

Football proudly stands as the most diverse and inclusive sport in the country, catering to all regardless of ability, age, gender, race, or religion.
