The 2024 Football NSW community season will go down as the biggest to date, with player registrations reaching record levels as competitions kick off across the state.

At the start of April, Football NSW sits 10% ahead of its 2023 year-to-date registrations, with community player numbers racing past 230,000 and more still to come.

Female player registrations have continued to lead the way off the back of the Matildas’ performance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™, sitting 18% up on 2023 year-to-date numbers. Young girls are joining the world game in droves with registrations up an incredible 23% year-to-date for ages 5-12, setting the foundations for a bright future for football in NSW.

Football NSW CEO John Tsatsimas expressed his pride and delight while acknowledging the hard-work and efforts of the entire football family.

“To have such healthy record-breaking numbers and a positive growth in participation, especially in the female space, speaks virtue of what this game means to everyone,” Tsatsimas stated.

“I want to thank all the hard-working and passionate club volunteers and local Member Associations who continue to do an incredible job within their communities in delivering a positive football experience as well as welcoming new members to the football family.”

Record registrations are being experienced across Football NSW’s boundaries, with the Granville & Districts Soccer Football Association (GDSFA) being no exception. GDSFA General Manager, Rosanna Lentini, was delighted to see a 19% (year-to-date) increase in player registrations, highlighting the growth in female football in the area.

“The 2024 season has seen an active increase in player participation and thanks to the success of our Matildas, we’ve seen a fantastic growth in the female space,” Lentini said.

“Thanks to this growth, we are now looking at establishing an Under 6s and Under 7s girls competition as well as our own Under 10 girls competitions together with our continued partnership with Blacktown & District Soccer FA and our Phoenix League.

“We have also seen an added increase in our MiniRoos with more youngsters wanting to enjoy the world game.

“We at GDSFA are looking forward to hosting a successful 2024 season.”
