Volunteer Spotlight: Luke Bingham

Throughout National Volunteer Week, Football NSW is highlighting the contributions of various members of grassroots football that have been nominated by their local community.
Luke Bingham has been a cornerstone of our local football regional community in Millthorpe, dedicating over two decades of volunteer service with unwavering commitment.
He began his journey coaching his older son Cooper’s soccer team through to U16 and has continued with his younger son, Archer’s team who are currently in the U16 division.
Luke has not only taught the fundamentals of the game but also instilled values of teamwork, perseverance, respect and sportsmanship in his players. From their early days he has been instrumental in their development both on and off the field.
Luke’s commitment to the team’s development is evident in his organisation of off-field events, such as bushwalks, mountain biking riding and an excursion to Sydney on public transport for our country children to learn these skills. They provided valuable life lessons in teamwork and resilience, further enriching the players’ experiences and fostering a sense of unity and belonging among them.
One of Luke’s most significant contributions has been his dedication to setting up home games at our local field in Millthorpe, often under challenging and frosty conditions. His resilience and dedication to ensuring that the team has the best possible environment to play and grow, irrespective of the weather, exemplifies his commitment to the sport and the community.
Furthermore, Luke’s efforts have gone beyond coaching. He has been pivotal in strengthening the club’s foundation, making it more robust and capable of supporting its players. Through his volunteer work, Luke has not only improved the quality of football at our club but has also fostered a sense of community and belonging among players, parents, and fellow volunteers.
His selfless contributions and the positive impact he has made on our football community embody the essence of volunteerism and make him an exemplary candidate for recognition during this National Volunteer Week. Luke’s work embodies the theme of ‘Something for Everyone,’ and is a great example of how one individual’s dedication can enrich a community, support the youth, and enhance the beautiful game of football in our region.
