League ONE Womens Preview Round 18

Round 18 in the Football NSW League One Women’s competition delivers another fantastic set of games for fans to savour this weekend as teams jostle for the top four.

There are seven games to run the rule over including the Match of the Round between St George FC and SD Raiders FC.

Let’s get onto the preview.

Match of the Round: St George FC vs SD Raiders FC, Sunday 30 June, 3pm, Ernie Smith Reserve

St George FC face off against SD Raiders FC in their game down at Ernie Smith Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

The Saints head into this game in fine form after a 5-0 win against Nepean FC at Jamison Park last weekend.

Janan Codmani scored the opener for St George FC and she has been a consistent presence for them in midfield.

St George FC have won three on the bounce and look to get another three points against one of the top contenders this season.

SD Raiders FC won 4-3 in a thrilling contest against Marconi Stallions FC at Marconi Stadium #2 on Sunday.

They move to the top of the League One Women’s competition and SD Raiders FC have just picked getting results this season.

Abigail Boag found the back of the net twice in their win and she gives SD Raiders FC more attacking options up front.

This game will be streamed on the Football NSW YouTube channel under the live tab with ‘The Professor’ Melissa Muscat behind the microphone.

Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC vs Nepean FC, Sunday 30 June, 3pm, Popondetta Park

Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC host Nepean FC in their game at Popondetta Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Town Rangers had a 1-1 draw with fellow contenders Hills United FC at Bella Vista Public School last weekend.

The hosts remain equal first with SD Raiders FC but Mt Druitt are the driving seat to make their first finals appearance since their return.

Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC have built their recent winning run on a strong defence which has kept three clean sheets in their last four games.

Nepean FC were beaten 5-0 by a rampant St George FC in their game at Jamison Park last weekend.

The visitors had a 5-0 defeat last time these two teams met so they will be hoping for a stronger performance on Sunday.

Inter Lions FC vs Sutherland Strikers FC, Sunday 30 June, 3pm, Majors Bay Reserve

Inter Lions FC face off against Sutherland Strikers FC down at Majors Bay Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

The Lions were beaten 2-0 by Blacktown City FC in their game at Majors Bay Reserve last weekend.

Inter Lions FC won the previous meeting 3-2 back in Round 5 and hope to make it a season sweep against the Strikers.

They will look to top scorer Milena Visser and Isabel McBride to find the back of the net for them in this game.

Sutherland Strikers FC had their game against South Coast Flame FC at Harrie Denning Centre washed out.

The Strikers will still head into this game off the high of their win against Hills United FC last time they were on the pitch.

Custodian Chantelle Symes is a commanding presence for the Strikers and has helped to shore up their defence since her signing.

Central Coast Mariners FC vs Hills United FC, Sunday 30 June, 3pm, Pluim Park

Central Coast Mariners FC host Hills United FC in a crucial game at Pluim Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Mariners had a mixed week with a mid-week win against South East Phoenix FC then their game against Bankstown City Lions FC was washed out.

Claire Denning had a hat-trick in their mid-week success and she will be keen to find the back of the net again on Sunday.

This next month is a big period for Central Coast Mariners as they look to remain in the top four fight.

Hills United FC had a 1-1 draw against fellow top side Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC at Bella Vista Public School.

They have found themselves in third spot after their last two results which has put a dent in their title hopes.

Hills United FC still maintain the best defence in League One Women’s and hope to keep another clean sheet on Sunday.

Camden Tigers FC vs Bankstown City Lions FC, Sunday 30 June, 3pm, Ron Dine Reserve

Camden Tigers FC play Bankstown City Lions FC down at Ron Dine Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers returned to the winner’s circle after a 2-1 success against South East Phoenix FC down in Nowra.

They hope that result can spark a run of results which can see them jump into the top half of the League One Women’s ladder.

Samantha Cefai got her maiden goal of the season in the win and she will be keen to find the back of the net again.

Bankstown City Lions FC had their Match of the Round against Central Coast Mariners FC washed out last weekend.

The Lions hold fourth and final spot for the finals currently and three points can help keep the buffer to the chasing pack.

Golden Boot Aya Seino passed 30 goals for the season and she will be ready to add to her tally on the weekend.

South East Phoenix FC vs Marconi Stallions FC, Sunday 30 June, 3:15pm, South Nowra Football Complex

South East Phoenix FC take on Marconi Stallions FC at South Nowra Football Complex on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts were beaten 2-1 by Camden Tigers in their game at South Nowra Football Complex last Sunday.

South East Phoenix FC have been a much more confident team at home and look to get more points on their home turf.

They have started to find the back of the net in recent weeks and Beth Tomlinson has been a big part of that shift.

Marconi Stallions battled hard but lost 4-3 to SD Raiders FC in a pulsating game at Marconi Stadium last weekend.

Despite the loss, the Stallions put together another good performance against one of the top sides in the competition.

Charmaine Marquinez chipped in a goal for the Stallions and has been a lynchpin of their attack this season.

Blacktown City FC vs South Coast Flame FC, Sunday 30 June, 4pm, Landen Stadium

Rounding off the weekend is Blacktown City FC vs South Coast Flame FC at Landen Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Blacktown City FC made it two games unbeaten after their 2-0 win against Inter Lions FC away from home last weekend.

Amber Precious was a goal scorer in the win and her work alongside Eloise Hansen will be important to making it back-to-back wins.

Coach Michael Hawthorne was happy with the display in the result and hopes they can repeat the performance on Sunday.

South Coast Flame FC will be refreshed after their game against Sutherland Strikers FC was washed out.

Coach Daniel Naumovski should have the side ready to go from the opening whistle and try and take three points.

These two sides played out a barnstorming 3-3 draw back in Round 5 so hopefully this game is similarly entertaining.

Round 17 Mini Review: Central Coast Mariners 0 defeated by Bankstown City Lions 3

Bankstown City Lions FC won 3-0 against Central Coast Mariners FC at Pluim Park on Wednesday night.

The Lions pick up three big points which will cement their spot in the League One Women’s top four. Aya Seino pounced on a loose pass to make it 1-0 in the 8th minute then the sharpshooter rounded the keeper to make it 2-0 in the 26th minute to make it 32 goals for the season.

The visitors continued to surge forward and look to add a third goal on a foggy evening in the Central Coast. Captain Stephanie Ambrose snuck a low effort into the net for 3-0 in the 79th minute to round off the Bankstown City Lions FC win.
