Three Football NSW finalists at National Youth Championships Girls
Finalists are locked in as the group stage of the 2024 National Youth Championships Girls’ Tournament Day 3 came to a close at the Home of the Matildas in Melbourne.
On a perfect day for football, each team fought until the final whistle attempting to force their way up the table to progress further into the competition.
The tournament now enters the final stages which will be contested over three days, moving from the Quarter Finals (Saturday, 6 July), Semi Finals (Sunday, 7 July) before the National Youth Champions are crowned on Monday, 8 July.
Finalists Confirmed
Ten teams have been whittled down to eight in the Under 15 Age Group with NSW Metro and the NSW-strong Invitational XI progressing through from Group A. NSW Metro finished the group stage with a convicing 6-0 defeat of Western Australia, Gabriella White and Zoe Panagopoulos both netting a brace.
A hat-trick for Football NSW’s Summer Smith helped the heavily NSW-represented Invitational XI record a 5-0 victory over Capital Football in their final group game.
In Group C, NSW Country fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Victoria White, consigning them to third place in the group, just missing out on a finals berth.
The Under 16 Age Group has been cut in half with 12 teams becoming six ahead of the Quarter Finals. NSW Metro continued their impressive campaign with day 3 wins over both Northern NSW and Capital Football, with Skye Halmarick claiming her second hattrick of the tournament in the latter. Having scored 20 goals and still yet to concede, it was little surprise to see them top Group A, placing them directly into Sunday’s Semi Finals.
Day 3 saw mixed results for the U16 NSW Country team, registering a 3-1 win over Tasmania before going down 7-2 in a high-scoring affair against Victoria. The morning’s win was enough to secure a spot in Saturday’s Quarter Finals, wrapping up a thrilling group stage for the NSW representative teams.
