Round 10 Futsal Premier League 2 – Open Women’s Review

It was a big weekend in the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Women’s competition. Round 10 might have gone a long way to deciding the top four headed into the final month. The three games had some superb action. Our Match of the Round saw Phoenix Futsal Club and Sydney Futsal Club battle for three points. Let’s get onto the review.

Phoenix Futsal Club defeated by Sydney Futsal Club 8

Sydney Futsal Club won 8-1 against Phoenix Futsal Club down at The Centre – Dural on Saturday afternoon.

Phoenix Futsal Club battled hard but didn’t have the firepower to match it against the top four side. Sage Melhem did get a goal in the 35th minute and Phoenix unveiled young custodian Mia Stedman who made some good stops.

For Sydney Futsal Club, it was a comfortable win which keeps them in the top two of the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Women’s competition. Cynthia Coghan led the way with a hat-trick while Layla Hamdan had a double. Abbey Harrison, Ashley Limnios and Chiara Cencigh all found the back of the net as well.

The first shot of the game fell to the visitors. Heba El Saddick fired at the near post which was saved well by Phoenix Futsal Club keeper Mia Stedman.

Sydney Futsal Club kept firing at the young custodian. Abbey Harrison and Ashley Limnios had strikes which were repelled.

Sophia Axisa authored the first shot for Phoenix Futsal Club but it was held well by Sydney Futsal Club keeper Natalie Milenkovski.

Sydney Futsal Club kept searching for the opener. Cynthia Coghlan muscled off a defender and fired straight.

The visitors made it 1-0 in the 7th minute. It was good follow up from Coghlan who tapped home after Stedman had blocked a long range strike.

Quickly, it was 2-0 for Sydney Futsal Club. Layla Hamdan found space and rocketed it home in the 7th minute.

Georgina Sarkissian tried to pull one back for Phoenix Futsal Club. Her effort was denied by a brave effort from Milenkovski.

Sydney Futsal Club made it 3-0 in the 9th minute. It was another thunderous strike from Hamden which found the back of the net.

Phoenix Futsal Club kept fighting for a goal. Sarkissian dug out an effort then Samara Chiert had an effort which went straight.

The visitors started the second half on the front foot again. Abbey Harrison made it 4-0 in the 23rd minute with a strong strike.

It was an open contest to open the second stanza. Gala Pavlovic poked one towards goal for Phoenix then Hamdan almost struck on the counter for Sydney Futsal Club.

Sydney Futsal Club made it 5-0 on the counter. It was a swift movement which ended with Ashley Limnios firing home in the 27th minute.

Coghlan made it 6-0 in the 29th minute. She found space and rolled the ball home for her second of the game.

Phoenix Futsal Club were pushing for a goal in this game. Pavlovic was denied again while Harriet Johnson had a chance.

Sydney Futsal Club made it 7-0 from a dogged Chiara Cencigh effort. She kept at the ball to sweep it home in the 31st minute.

Phoenix Futsal Club did get on the board in the 35th minute. Sarkissian kept it in before she found Sage Melhem to tap home for 7-1.

Mia Nataly rattled the woodwork late for Sydney Futsal Club while Coghlan had a chance to add to her tally.

Coghlan put the exclamation point on the win with her hat-trick. She was able to scrap home after Nataly’s shot to make it 8-1 for Sydney Futsal Club in the 35th minute.

Sydney Futsal Club saw out the rest of the game to secure three points and cement themselves in second spot on the ladder.

APIA FC Futsal 3 defeated Macarthur Quake Futsal Club 2

APIA FC Futsal were 3-1 winners against Macarthur Quake Futsal Club at Valentine Sports Park on Saturday afternoon.

That result gives APIA FC Futsal a strong hold on fourth spot in the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Women’s competition. The hosts were made to work for three points against the Quake side.

Isabella Stinziani made it 1-0 for APIA FC Futsal in the 4th minute before Sophia Pacheco levelled for the Quake at 1-1 in the same minute. Alessia Dal Pane gave APIA FC Futsal a 2-1 lead going into half-time after her 16th minute goal.

APIA FC Futsal extended it to a 3-1 lead in the second half in the 34th minute through Zoe Zaczek then a late own goal in the 36th minute cut it back to a 3-2 score line. APIA FC Futsal get back-to- back wins.

West City Crusaders 1 defeated by SD Raiders Futsal 3

SD Raiders Futsal won 3-1 against West City Crusaders in their game at PCYC Hawkesbury on Saturday afternoon.

The leaders were made to work for the win but they continue to streak away from the competition at the top of the table. It was a tight first half and the sides went into the break locked up at 0-0.

Layne Knight broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute to make it 1-0 for SD Raiders Futsal then Miriam Zumaya doubled the delight in the 24th minute for 2-0. Charlotte Owen pulled one back for Crusaders in the 25th minute for 2-1 before Zumaya got a brace and made it 3-1 in the 29th minute.
