Round 13 Futsal Premier League 2 – Open Men’s Review
Round 13 was a pivotal one in the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Men’s competition which saw our Premiers crowned on Saturday. Phoenix Futsal Club were crowned in their Match of the Round against APIA FC Futsal while the other two games were action packed.
Let’s get onto the review.
Match of the Round: Phoenix Futsal Club 9 defeated APIA FC Futsal 1
Phoenix Futsal Club won 9-1 against APIA FC Futsal down at The Centre – Dural on Saturday afternoon.
The hosts were in dominant form to win the Premiership with a game to spare. Lachie Davis and custodian James Brunacci scored braces while Paul Lee, Matthew Luttringer, Connor Slater and Julian Du Plessis all found the back of the net alongside an own goal.
APIA FC were gallant in defeat and remain in contention for the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Men’s finals. Their only goal was scored by Tyson Savas in the 15th minute but the side kept trying until the final whistle.
Phoenix Futsal Club started the game on the front foot. They were fizzing the ball around to try and find a way past the APIA FC defence.
The hosts made it 1-0 in the 3rd minute. Lachie Davis was on the end of the of a precise pass to arrow into the back of the net.
APIA FC Futsal started to find their rhythm. Tyson Savas had an effort from range which went wide of the mark.
Phoenix Futsal Club kept up their pressure and made it 2-0 in the 5th minute. It was turned home by a defender from a powerful kick-in.
The visitors did pull a goal back in the 6th minute. Savas started the move then found himself on the head to fire home for 2-1.
Next, Phoenix Futsal Club had a pair of chances to restore their two-goal advantage. Paul Lee whipped over then Andrew Ferrara whistled wide.
APIA FC Futsal worked the ball around the pitch before it fell to Ryuki Hirota who shot right at Phoenix Futsal Club keeper James Brunacci.
Lee showed off his strong shot to make it 3-1. He found space and rocketed an effort into the net in the ninth minute.
The visitors kept trying to find a way back in the game. They worked an opening before it was stabbed wide then Anthony Sparacino had an effort turned away.
Phoenix Futsal Club made it 4-1 in the 18th minute. Lee had his header saved then Matthew Luttringer was there to turn home.
Next, it was Connor Slater who got on the scoresheet. He finished well on the run to make it 5-1 in the 18th minute.
They kept pushing forward towards the end of the half. Lee hit the bar with another effort as they held a three-goal advantage going into the break.
APIA FC Futsal looked to cut their deficit quickly after the break. The visitors started with Zayd Husain as the extra attacker.
The visitors held the ball well trying to find an opening while making sure they didn’t allow Phoenix Futsal Club to score on the open net.
Their best chance of the period fell to Hirota. The ball fell to the attacker and he stroked it wide of the left post.
Next, it was Husain who tried to pull a goal back. His strike from deep was tipped over by Brunacci.
Phoenix Futsal Club eventually won the ball back and Brunacci lobbed the ball into the net to make it 6-1 in the 26th minute.
APIA FC Futsal kept surging forward looking for a goal. The ball ended up with Sparacino who couldn’t direct it home.
It was déjà vu for Brunacci who made it 7-1 in the 28th minute. He caught an effort from APIA FC Futsal then kicked it into the net.
Phoenix Futsal Club were in full flow late in the game. They swung the ball around towards Davis who rolled home for 8-1 in the 28th minute.
Du Plessis put the icing on the cake for Phoenix Futsal Club. He snatched the ball well and swept it home for 9-1 in the 32nd minute.
APIA FC Futsal finished the game with a flurry of chances. Savas nodded wide then Husain rattled the woodwork.
Post match, Phoenix Futsal Club goal scorer Lachie Davis reflected on the win and the achievement for the club:
“We knew it was going to be tough game so we couldn’t underestimate them. It was a day where everything fell into place for us. It is amazing to win the title and to have a new squad achieve this is a massive deal.” said Davis.

Macarthur Quake Futsal Club 5 defeated Sydney Futsal Club 2
Macarthur Quake Futsal Club won 5-2 against Sydney Futsal Club at Minto Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday afternoon.
The Quake have moved into second spot on the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Men’s ladder after winning their third game in a row. Mark Symington made it 1-0 for Quake in the 2nd minute before Michael Loupis levelled for Sydney Futsal Club in the 5th minute for 1-1.
Luke Bell made it 2-1 for Quake again in the 14th minute then Radwan Jirjnazi found the back of the net for 3-1 in the 17th minute. Alexander Purves added the fourth in the 34th minute then Symington made it 5-1 in the 35th minute before Loupis scored his second for 5-2 in 36th minute.
West City Crusaders 3 defeated by Raiders Futsal Club 8
Raiders Futsal Club were 8-3 winners against West City Crusaders at PCYC Hawkesbury on Saturday afternoon.
The visitors got back in the winner’s circle and set up a win and in scenario for next weekend to make finals football. Tomas Medimurac made it 1-0 in the first minute then Goran Ljuboja doubled their delight in the 2nd minute.
Nathan Niski pulled one back for Crusaders in the 16th minute for 2-1 before Slaven Ljuboja got in on the scoring act for 3-1 in the 17th minute. Alexander Murrell brought it back to 3-2 in the 18th minute for Crusaders.
Raiders Futsal Club started fast again in the second half. Slaven Ljuboja scored his second to make it 4-2 in the 21st minute then Jordan Winckle saw red for Crusaders in the 28th minute which made the comeback tougher.
Sebastian Malfara made it 5-2 in the 29th minute followed by Kodai Hayashi scoring for 6-2 in the 34th minute. Malfara picked up his second to make it 7-2 in the 36th minute then Ryan Faulkner found the back of the net for Crusaders for 7-3. Malfara topped off the win with his hat-trick for 8-3 in the 39th minute.
