Round 13 Futsal Premier League 2 – Open Women’s Review

Round 13 in the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Women’s competition was another strong installment as the season entered its final phase. There were three games to enjoy across Saturday afternoon including the Match of the Round between Phoenix Futsal and APIA FC Futsal.

Let’s get onto the review.

Match of the Round: Phoenix Futsal Club 0 defeated by APIA FC Futsal 3

APIA FC Futsal were 3-1 winners against Phoenix Futsal Club at The Centre – Dural on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts put up a strong effort against one of the top four teams in the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Women’s competition. Their best chances fell to Georgina Sarkissian and Harriet Johnson in the contest.

APIA FC Futsal sewed up a spot in the finals with three points on Saturday. Isabella Stinziani led the way with goals in the 9th and 31st minute while Zoe Zaczek fired home in the 35th minute to put the cherry on top.

The visitors were ready to go from the opening minute. Yumeka Yajima found space and fired wide of the mark.

Phoenix Futsal Club authored their first chance soon after. Georgina Sarkissian was found well and whipped an effort over.

Next, Paige Cuthill joined the attack and had a shot which left it open for Phoenix Futsal Club keeper Jade Hunt to have an attempt which went wide.

Phoenix Futsal Club built momentum with a few more opportunities. Sarkissian curled wide then she shot right at Cuthill.

APIA FC Futsal made it 1-0 in the 9th minute. Yajima cushioned a pass to Isabella Stinziani who rolled it home.

Yajima tried to poke home from a kick-in then Stinziani tried her luck again but it fizzed wide of the goal post.

The visitors were in full flow. Zoe Zaczek shot right at Hunt then Rebecca Watts had bites of the cherry.

APIA FC Futsal pushed forward again for a second goal. Watts snatched the ball and dragged her effort wide.

Stinziani was hungry for further goals. She was denied from close range including a strike which shook the bar.

Phoenix Futsal Club tried to get back into the game after the break. Sarkissian won the ball and fired it wide.

Yajima provided another precise pass which found Stinziani who dug it wide then Stinziani hit the base of the post.

Next, Samara Chiert fired off a shot which was tipped over by APIA FC Futsal custodian Cuthill acrobatically.

Both teams kept producing chances in the second half. Watts arrowed wide then Chiert had an effort right at the keeper.

APIA FC Futsal made it 2-0 in the 31st minute. They countered down the field and Stinziani rolled the ball home.

Zoe Zaczek made it 3-0 in the 35th minute from another strong move. She started the combination and finished well in the corner.

Phoenix Futsal Club had a few chances to end the game. Chiert whistled wide then Sage Melhem clipped the bar with a long-range strike.

APIA FC Futsal finished the game on a high note. The ball fell to Zaczek again who poked the effort right at Hunt.

Macarthur Quake Futsal Club 1 defeated by Sydney Futsal Club 5

Sydney Futsal Club won 5-1 against Macarthur Quake Futsal Club at Minto Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors won their fourth game on the bounce headed into the finals. They were shocked early by Quake who made it 1-0 through Angelique Lynch in the 14th minute. Mia Nataly equalized for Sydney Futsal Club in the 18th minute for 1-1 at the break.

It was all Sydney Futsal Club in the second half. Heba El Saddik made it 2-1 in the 22nd minute then Cynthia Coghlan scored for 3-1 in the 30th minute. Coghlan added her second for 4-1 in the 35th minute before Ashley Limnios rounded out the win with her 40th minute goal for 5-1.

West City Crusaders 1 defeated by Raiders Futsal Club 3

Raiders Futsal Club won 3-1 against West City Crusaders in their game at PCYC Hawkesbury on Saturday afternoon.

That result should confirm third spot on the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Women’s ladder for Raiders Futsal Club. It was a tight first half between the two sides which saw them go into the break at 0-0.

Brittany Hammond made it 1-0 in the 21st minute for Raiders Futsal Club before Tia Berg levelled for Crusaders in the same minute for 1-1. Keira Addison gave Raiders Futsal Club the lead again in the 28th minute for 2-1 then Hope Cleur made it 3-1 in the 33rd minute to confirm the win.
