Round 6 Review – League One Men’s

Despite the limited offering of games, there were some important results in the FNSW League One Men’s round six action across Friday and Saturday night.
With more round six action still to come, let’s take a look at the action which took place.
Newcastle Jets 0-2 Northern Tigers
One of the big results of the curtailed weekend saw Northern Tigers secure a big 2-0 victory over Newcastle Jets away from home.
The win the second defeat which the hosts have suffered at home, Northern Tigers were resolute in the second half after being reduced to ten men before the break.
Earlier in the fixture, they found their opener right before a drinks break, Jesse Spang scoring with his head at the near post from the set piece. The visitors having a second chance with a penalty shout in the 37th minute.
It was to get a lot more tougher before the break though with Nic Petrillo receiving a second yellow card a minute later.
From there, the Jets held a lot of possession but were unable to break through a solid Tigers defence. A second goal coming at the other end with just over ten minutes to go. Ryan Attard dribbling past three defenders after collecting the ball on the edge of the box, before finishing across goal.
The Tigers coaching staff also giving credit to Bodie Denton who made some good saves at the other end.

Northern Tigers 2 (Spang 25’, Attard 79’)
Hills United 2-0 Inter Lions
Hills United were able to bounce back from a tough couple of weeks with a 2-0 win over Inter Lions at Valentine Sports Park, Saturday night.
After three straight losses to SD Raiders, Newcastle Jets and Northern Tigers, they scored twice in the second half to pick up the result at home. While the loss for Inter Lions was the second of back-to-back defeats.
After a first half where neither side had many chances on goal. Hills were good value for their win. They opened their account through Dimi Petratos right before the hour.
From there on it opened up with both sides going at it before Evan Patramanis was sent from the field with just over ten minutes to go.
Hills capping off their win with a second goal in injury time to Lachlan Lal who replaced his brother minutes earlier. A confidence boosting result for the hosts, while Inter Lions will get players back from injury in the near future.

Mounties Wanderers 1-0 Hakoah FC
Mounties Wanderers held on for their first win of the season against Hakoah FC at Wanderers Football Park, Saturday night.
The hosts started this one the better of the two sides scoring early before the rest of the contest played out in tight fashion despite the fact the visitors were reduced to ten.
They found the net before the quarter hour through Joshua Okan who scored his first goal of the season in just his third start.
Perhaps it was the heat which got to the players Saturday evening but we saw another red card here. Valentin Cuny sent off in the 23rd minute.
Hakoah responding well to the red card, working hard and nearly taking a point form it. Mounties holding on to secure their second clean sheet in three games, the result hopefully a good building block for the Wanderers going forward in 2025.

Blacktown Spartans 2-2 Bulls FC Academy
Blacktown Spartans and Bulls FC Academy shared the points after a back and forth contest to kick off the round Friday night.
A game which saw both sides take the lead on different occasions, an Atiya Waraga equaliser with fifteen minutes left gave the visitors a point.
Prior to that, the academy side took the lead inside five minutes. George Timotheou adjudged to have brought down an attacker with Zane Helweh converting the spot kick.
From there, the Spartans did well to wrestle control of the game and they started to created chances with Riley Chapple and Angus Chance creating efforts before the equaliser.
Suleyman Bangura the scorer, lobbing the keeper to make in one-all before ten minutes. The score remaining equal before Aedon Kyra made it 2-1 to the hosts seven minutes into the second half.
It was the Bulls turn to then apply pressure and they found an equaliser with a quarter hour to go. Substitute Atiya Waraga having the desired impact fourteen minutes after coming on.
Spartans and Bulls Academy both having chances to win it from there.

Bankstown City 0-0 Bonnyrigg White Eagles
Spoils were shared in the derby as Bankstown City and Bonnyrigg White Eagles couldn’t be separated at Jensen Park.
The first half saw Bankstown City in control of proceedings before the visitors played their way in to have chances of their own at the other end.
After the visitors lost Aaron Peterson in the first fifteen minutes, Bankstown City had an early goal ruled out at the other end, Lucca Cervo denied the opener due to an offside flag. Further chances falling for Jonathan Grozdanovski and Jamie Masson before the break.
While Bonnyrigg had a chance of their own through Daniel Bittar who hit the crossbar with his head from close range.
The second half more even in terms of chances, Stefan Nikolic having a couple of half chances. While Henry Davies went closest for the hosts, his header inches wide from a free-kick. Bankstown City perhaps the more disappointed of the two post game.

Rydalmere Lions v Dulwich Hill, SD Raiders v UNSW FC and Macarthur Rams v Canterbury Bankstown all postponed due to extreme heat.
