Round 10 Review – League One Women’s

Round 10 in the Football NSW League One Women’s competition was another fabulous instalment with plenty of goals and drama that gripped the competition.
There were six games played across the weekend highlighted by the Match of the Round between contenders Marconi Stallions FC and SD Raiders FC.
Let’s get onto the review.
Match of the Round: Marconi Stallions FC 0 defeated by SD Raiders FC 1
SD Raiders FC won 1-0 against Marconi Stallions FC down at Marconi Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The hosts huffed and puffed but couldn’t find a way through the SD Raiders FC defence in this contest. Their best chances fell to Hannah Tomelic and Charmaine Marquinez throughout the game.
This result consolidates second spot on the League One Women’s ladder for SD Raiders FC headed towards the midpoint. Tenealle Hay scored the winner in the 67th minute to earn all three points.
Marconi Stallions FC and SD Raiders FC strode onto Marconi Stadium #2 ready to do battle in this derby contest.
The hosts authored the first chance of the contest. A corner fell to Asiyah Zreika whose shot deflected wide then Hannah Tomelic fired straight at SD Raiders FC keeper Natasha Pentecost.
SD Raiders FC responded with their opening chance. Amanda Radmilo wriggled free and shot right at Marconi Stallions FC custodian Isabella Sollecito.
The visitors surged forward looking for the opener. Tenealle Hay headed over then Sarah Mandile poked an effort wide of the post.
Hay continued to be the sunshine in the SD Raiders FC attack. She cut inside her defender then whipped an effort against both posts.
Next, Layne Knight went close for SD Raiders FC. Her free-kick went over the bar as another warning shot for the Stallions defence.
The visitors finished the first half with a pair of chances. Both Hay and Abigail Boag were denied well by Sollecito.
Marconi Stallions almost snatched the lead before the break. Marquinez threaded through Tomelic but the final ball couldn’t be poked home.
The Stallions picked up where they left in the second half. Helena Danielle popped the ball over the defence for Marquinez who fired right at Pentecost.
SD Raiders FC continued their search for a goal. Neat interplay from Madeleine Malone and Hay saw the latter whistle wide.
The hosts went closest to opening the scoring through Talia Kupceric. A flick on drove her towards goal but her shot whacked the base of the post.
SD Raiders FC made it 1-0 in the 67th minute. Malone had a dipping shot which Sollecito saved then Hay followed in to tap home.
Buoyed by their goal SD Raiders FC went forward again. Sharina Harris rounded Sollecito but chipped it wide of the mark.
Marconi Stallions pushed everyone forward for an equalizer. Marie Herrera took an opportunity from a throw in and blazed it over.
SD Raiders FC marched forward again for their second. Layne Knight ran onto an effort which flew wide.
They went close again in stoppage time. Substitute Abuk Nyor was played through and was denied well by Sollecito.
SD Raiders FC saw out the remainder of the contest and picked up three points in this derby contest.

South Coast Flame FC 1 defeated St George FC 0
South Coast Flame FC won 1-0 against St George FC in their game at Sir Ian McLennan Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Flame made it back-to-back wins and moved into the League One Women’s top four for the moment. Neither side could find an opening in the first half and went into the shed locked up at 0-0 with everything left to play for.
The hosts kept pushing for the winner and it came in the 71st minute from a set piece. Substitute Alexis Malizis thumped home a corner to make it 1-0 for South Coast Flame FC. St George FC threw everything they could at the Flame in the final moments but suffered their first loss of the season.
Nepean FC 1 drew with Camden Tigers FC 1
Points were shared in a 1-1 draw between Nepean FC and Camden Tigers FC at Cook Park on Sunday afternoon.
Nepean FC earned their first point of the season in a fighting performance against a dogged Camden Tigers FC side. The two sides went back and forth in the first half but couldn’t find a break through so it was 0-0 at half-time.
The hosts broke the deadlock in the 69th minute making it 1-0 through Paris Staal as they looked to get all three points. Camden Tigers FC levelled in the 79th minute as Chantell Bernard found the back of the net for 1-1 and force the teams to share the points.
Blacktown Spartans FC 1 lost to Central Coast Mariners FC 4
Central Coast Mariners FC won 4-1 against Blacktown Spartans FC at Blacktown Football Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Mariners went to three games unbeaten after a solid display once again on their travels to Sydney’s west. Lily McMahon opened the scoring for the Mariners in the 16th minute with a chipped finish on the turn for 1-0 then McMahon added a second in the 23rd minute for 2-0.
Next, Eliza Familton made it 3-0 in the 26th minute then Natalia O’Driscoll scored for 4-0 in the 44th minute for a healthy lead at half-time. Blacktown Spartans FC clawed back a goal from Danielle Keller in the 60th minute to make it 4-1.
Inter Lions FC 3 defeated Sutherland Strikers FC 1
Inter Lions FC were 3-1 winners against Sutherland Strikers FC at Majors Bay Reserve on Sunday afternoon.
The Lions picked up their fourth win of the season in a comfortable display on their home turf and bounced back from being knocked out of the Sapphire Cup. Kiara Coscia made it 1-0 in the 40th minute for Inter Lions FC headed into the break.
Ella Martins scored to make it 2-0 for Inter Lions FC in the 50th minute before Grace Considine pulled it back to 2-1 for the Strikers in the 62nd minute. Substitute Jenny Hughes made it 3-1 for Inter Lions FC in 96th minute to round off the win.
Hills United FC 2 defeated Bankstown City Lions FC 0
Hills United FC won 2-0 against Bankstown City Lions FC down at Valentine Sports Park on Sunday evening.
The league leaders are now the only side left unbeaten in the League One Women’s competition after the weekend. Hills United FC made it 1-0 in the 22nd minute through sharpshooter Jess Wootton and took that lead into the half-time break.
Wootton doubled her delight in the second half making it 2-0 in the 58th minute for Hills United FC with her 11th goal of the campaign. The hosts saw out the rest of the game to record the win and go three points clear at the top of the ladder.
