Western Sydney Wanderers book Sapphire Cup Semi-Final ticket

In a first ever for the club, the Western Sydney Wanderers have secured a place in this year’s Sapphire Cup Semi-Finals following a dramatic 5-4 win on penalties over UNSW FC after the game had finished 2-2 after extra time on a chilly Wednesday evening at Wanderers Football Park.

UNSW FC got off to the best possible start with a goal just after the break thanks to quality striker Demi Koulizakis in the 49th minute.

The Wanderers replied twelve minutes from time thanks to substitute Freda Karaberis as the match ended 1-1 after normal time.

Chelsea Barton though she’d done enough to put the Wanderers through with a goal in the 101st minute however Allira Toby had other ideas notching up an equaliser in the 110th minute sending the game to penalties.

The Wanderers held their nerve as they prevailed on penalties 5-4 and booked a date with APIA Leichhardt FC with the winner advancing to the final on the 10th of July at Valentine Sports Park.

The other semi-final fixture will feature the Mt Druitt Town Rangers taking on the Macarthur Rams to be played on Wednesday 18th of June at Popondetta Park.
