Round 17 Preview – League One Women’s

Round 17 in the Football NSW League One Women’s competition is another weekend of interesting match ups in the heated race for the top four.

We have six games to examine across Saturday and Sunday headlined by the Match of the Round between Blacktown Spartans FC and Inter Lions FC.

Match of the Round: Blacktown Spartans FC vs Inter Lions FC, Sunday 22 June, 5pm, Blacktown Football Park

Blacktown Spartans FC host Inter Lions FC in their contest at Blacktown Football Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Spartans were beaten 4-2 in a six-goal game against Marconi Stallions FC at Marconi Stadium.

Milena Visser scored the second goal for the Spartans in the defeat and she will be hungry to score against her old side.

Both Paris Vinuya and Eleonora Daga have provided goals for the hosts and look to add to their tallies on Sunday.

Inter Lions FC head back into action after being the odd team out and having the bye in Round 16.

Since her return in Round 8, Jenny Hughes has given the Lions some roar up front and added to the attacking pack.

The Lions were beaten 2-0 in the previous meeting in Round 4 and look to turn the tide in front of the cameras.

South Coast Flame FC vs SD Raiders FC, Saturday 21 June, 5:15pm, Sir Ian McLennan Park

Kicking off the weekend is South Coast Flame FC against SD Raiders FC at Sir Ian McLennan Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Flame had the result of the weekend in their 3-2 comeback win against Bankstown City Lions FC in the Match of the Round.

Molly Lawless produced the winner and has been an important cog for the Flame in their chase for finals football.

Alongside her, Mikayla De Jong entered the game at half-time and helped ignite the turnaround for the Flame.

SD Raiders FC were held in a 1-1 draw against local rivals Camden Tigers FC down at Ron Dine Reserve.

Coach Bojan Radmilo will want his side to replicate their first half effort on Saturday to take three points up the highway.

Their goal scorer Amelia Savetta has helped with some big goals for SD Raiders FC and will want to fire home again in this fixture.

Nepean FC vs Bankstown City Lions FC, Sunday 22 June, 5pm, Cook Park

Nepean FC take on Bankstown City Lions FC in an intriguing game at Cook Park on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts head into this one after a 3-0 defeat in their travels to Pluim Park against Central Coast Mariners FC.

It was another game where Nepean FC Jasmine Crouch earned rave reviews with some of her saves in the loss.

Last time these two met, it was a 5-0 loss for Nepean FC so they will be looking to turn around the result at home.

Bankstown City Lions FC featured in the Match of the Round and surrendered a two-goal lead in a 3-2 loss to South Coast Flame FC.

While they lost, the young Lions side battled to the end including Lucy Coxsedge who helped set up the opener.

Another strong performer was Tori Hronopoulos who flew down the flanks for the Lions across the whole game.

Marconi Stallions FC vs Blacktown City FC, Sunday 22 June, 5pm, Marconi Stadium #2

Marconi Stallions FC welcome Blacktown City FC to Marconi Stadium #2 for their game on Sunday afternoon.

The Stallions were 4-2 winners in a goal fest against Blacktown Spartans FC at Marconi Stadium last weekend.

Tsoler Nazarian bagged her first two goals for the club in the win and she offers the Stallions more variety up front.

Alongside her, Hannah Tomelic has been a stalwart for the club and featured on the NPLNSW Kick-Off podcast during the week.

Blacktown City FC lost 11-1 against a rampant Hills United FC side at Landen Stadium last Sunday afternoon.

Despite the loss, Blacktown City FC has had an improved last month and look to grab some points in this contest.

It is a busy week for the visitors who also have their catch-up game against Central Coast Mariners FC on Wednesday night.

Central Coast Mariners FC vs Sutherland Strikers FC, Sunday 22 June, 5pm, Pluim Park

Central Coast Mariners FC face off against Sutherland Strikers FC at Pluim Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Mariners had a comfortable 3-0 success against Nepean FC in their glut of fixtures on their home turf.

The dynamic duo of Peyton Scollay and Claire Denning contributed the goals and have led the way for the Mariners this season.

Custodian Kyara O’Brien has done a stellar job this season and has a pair of clean sheets thus far in 2025.

Sutherland Strikers FC went down 3-2 to St George FC in their local derby at Harrie Denning Centre last weekend.

Striker Kiera Moukatas was the standout for Sutherland Strikers FC in the first half of the campaign and tallied twice in their defeat.

Rosie Degnan has featured in every game for Sutherland Strikers FC this season and helps to marshall their defence.

Hills United FC vs Camden Tigers FC, Sunday 22 June, 5:30pm, Valentine Sports Park

Hills United FC round out the round against Camden Tigers FC at Valentine Sports Park on Sunday evening.

The league leaders thumped Blacktown City FC 11-1 to underline their Premiership credentials away from home.

Isabella Sciberras scored four times in the success to take her tally to 11 goals for the season and become the third Hills United FC player in double digit goals for the campaign.

Hills United FC have opened up an eight point gap on the rest of the competition and look to keep up their momentum.

Camden Tigers finished with a flourish to get a 1-1 draw against high flyers SD Raiders FC at Ron Dine Reserve.

Charlotte Taylor picked the right time to score her first of the season to claw back a point and she will be keen to find the back of the net again.

Between the sticks, Zarli Lakeman was immense in the draw and she might have another busy game on Sunday.
