Following a season on the road, ambitious League Two Men’s side Fraser Park FC returned to its spiritual home in Marrickville during its Round 24 clash against the Inner West Hawks FC which showcased the Portuguese club’s newly furbished venue.

The day entailed a full slate of matches which included the youth from the Under 13’s right through to the seniors all of which took on their local rivals Inner West Hawks FC.

While the result didn’t go as planned for Fraser Park going down 2-1 in the seniors, the day was remembered for the new look and feel the stadium had seen following a much needed upgrade.

These changes included re-laying the pitch, upgrading the lights, introducing a new scoreboard, an upgraded sound system, new seats and railings – all of which cost the club $2 million in total.

“They put in the stand, they put in the canteen, everybody was here to watch us, it is really nice, and I think the club deserves it,” said Fraser Park captain Alexis Wenzel.

“I have been here for seven years and when you look at this pitch and this stand, it is brilliant, and the future is bright for the club.”

Going forward, Wenzel hopes the first-grade team can take further steps with a top ground they call home.

“I think the squad is quality, obviously we have got heaps of young players that need to gain experience and I can only see Fraser Park going up and up; it is just a question of working hard, being fully committed, but we have no excuse, we have everything here to succeed.”

With the stadium upgrades complete and their first match back at home behind them, Wenzel is excited for the club to continue to experience game days there moving forward.

“It feels great – the pitch is fantastic, the lights, the scoreboard – everything.

“I said to the boys and the director said to the boys, ‘it is NPL-level,’ so at the end of the day, we have to be grateful and we have to know that we are quite lucky to be able to work in this kind of environment; we have got everything here to succeed.”

Looking ahead for the rest of the season and into the next, Wenzel is optimistic about the direction the club is going and is excited to experience that journey back at Fraser Park’s redeveloped home.

“I think the squad is good, now it is about implementing a couple of new players, working on what we want to implement for next year in terms of coaching staff and everything, but the core is here.

“We just need to keep working and it is going to come.”

With a season on the road and at a makeshift home away from Fraser Park behind them, Fraser Park FC will hope their new stadium can bring them some positive memories for the rest of the 2025 season and into the future.
