Football NSW proudly delivered its latest FNSW Heroes Program on Thursday 22 January, with 10 teachers taking part in the exclusive professional development initiative.

The program was made available specifically to teachers who delivered a Sporting Schools Program throughout 2025, recognising their commitment to growing participation and providing quality football experiences for students across NSW.

The Football Heroes Program has been created exclusively for teachers to further develop their knowledge and confidence in football. As a fully funded initiative (valued at $99), the course provides participants with the nationally recognised Foundation of Football accreditation at no cost.

Designed to empower educators, the program equips teachers with the confidence, knowledge and practical skills to deliver fun, safe and engaging football sessions within the school environment.

Through interactive, non-graded workshops, participants:

  • Learned the fundamentals of football techniques and playing principles
  • Gained access to ready-made season training plans
  • Built confidence in creating positive and inclusive sporting environments
  • Shared experiences and ideas through collaborative group discussions

Football NSW’s Program Manager for Sporting Schools Tunahan Guner praised the engagement shown throughout the session.

“The FNSW Heroes Program is about recognising the incredible work teachers are already doing in schools and giving them the tools to confidently deliver quality football experiences,” he said.

“By equipping teachers with practical knowledge and ready-made resources, we’re helping grow the game at grassroots level while ensuring students enjoy safe, inclusive and engaging football sessions.”

The Football Heroes Program acknowledges the vital role teachers already play in shaping young lives in the classroom and provides them with the tools to extend that impact onto the football field.

With 10 passionate educators completing the course, the initiative continues to strengthen the connection between schools and football — supporting the growth of the game, inspiring the next generation of players, and making football more accessible and inclusive for all.

Schools are also reminded that the Sporting Schools funding window is now open from Monday 16 February until Friday 27 February. Schools are encouraged to apply within this period to secure funding.

Football NSW looks forward to continuing to support teachers through future Heroes Program opportunities.
