Round 5 Preview – League One Women’s

Round 5 in the Football NSW League One Women’s competition turns the page towards the second month of the season, as teams begin to settle in and find their rhythm. Six matches headline the weekend, including a blockbuster Match of the Round between St George FC and SD Raiders FC.


Match of the Round: St George FC v SD Raiders FC

4:30pm, Sunday 29 March – Barton Park

St George FC take on a surging SD Raiders FC in the Match of the Round at Barton Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Saints secured their first three points last weekend with a 1-0 victory over Camden Tigers FC at Ron Dine Reserve.

Aya Seino was the difference on the scoresheet and will be eager to add to her tally once again.

Coach Mark Greenfield will be pleased to see his side on the board but will want them to be more clinical in front of goal.

SD Raiders FC were dominant in their 4-0 win over South Coast Flame FC last weekend.

Irish youth international Aoife Horgan starred with a second-half brace, while Jessica Neville and Erin Phelan were outstanding defensively.

South Coast Flame FC v Blacktown City FC

3:00pm, Saturday 28 March – Sir Ian McLennan Oval

South Coast Flame FC open the round against Blacktown City FC on Saturday afternoon.

The Flame suffered their first defeat of the season last weekend, going down 4-0 to SD Raiders FC.

Despite the result, Molly Lawless impressed across the 90 minutes and came close to scoring.

Coach Daniel Naumovski will be hoping his side can rediscover their attacking edge this weekend.

Blacktown City FC took the lead in their derby clash but eventually fell 2-1 to Blacktown Spartans FC.

Nyssa Castillo opened the scoring and has been a key contributor to their positive start.

Captain Paris Kambouris will be crucial as they face a tough away trip.


Camden Tigers FC v Bankstown City Lions FC

5:00pm, Sunday 29 March – Ron Dine Reserve

Camden Tigers FC host Bankstown City Lions FC at Ron Dine Reserve on Sunday.

The Tigers battled hard in their narrow 1-0 loss to St George FC in their first home game of the season.

Charlotte Taylor will be looking to open her account for the campaign.

The Tigers have shown resilience early in the season and will be a difficult opponent.

Bankstown City Lions FC come into the match following a 2-0 win over Inter Lions FC.

Chelsea Greguric scored her first goal and will be aiming to build on that momentum.

Samantha Payne continues to be a consistent presence in defence.


Marconi Stallions FC v Central Coast Mariners FC

5:00pm, Sunday 29 March – Marconi Stadium #2

Marconi Stallions FC face Central Coast Mariners FC on Sunday afternoon.

The Stallions recorded their first win midweek against Sutherland Strikers FC before falling 2-1 to Nepean FC.

Jasmyn Windsor found the net in their breakthrough victory and continues to settle into the side.

Goalkeeper Elizabeth Kerkham has also impressed and will be key once again.

The Mariners are looking to bounce back after a heavy 9-0 defeat to Newcastle Jets FC.

They will rely on their experienced players to help steady the side.


Blacktown Spartans FC v Nepean FC

5:00pm, Sunday 29 March – Blacktown Football Park

Blacktown Spartans FC take on Nepean FC at Blacktown Football Park.

The Spartans claimed a 2-1 win over Blacktown City FC in last weekend’s derby.

They have started the season strongly, collecting seven points, with Peyton Crye and Sheiden Jabour playing key roles.

Rita Boateng remains an impactful option off the bench.

Nepean FC also recorded a 2-1 win over Marconi Stallions FC last weekend.

Tiana-Louise Barton was influential, scoring from a set piece.

They will be without Eden Smith after her late red card in that match.


Sutherland Strikers FC v Newcastle Jets FC

5:00pm, Sunday 29 March – Harrie Denning Centre

Sutherland Strikers FC host Newcastle Jets FC on Sunday afternoon.

The Strikers lost 2-0 to Marconi Stallions FC midweek before having the bye.

Paola Andrea Giraldo Uribe has started the season well and will be looking to find the net.

The Strikers will aim to claim a major scalp at home.

Newcastle Jets FC were in outstanding form last weekend, defeating Central Coast Mariners FC 9-0.

Makayla Clifton scored five goals in a dominant display, while Aaliyah Kilroy has also been in strong form.

The pair form a dangerous attacking combination.
