Round 9 Review – League One Women’s

Round 9 in the Football NSW League One Women’s competition as filled with big results, goals and plenty of action as the weather started to cool down and the action heated up.

There were six games to enjoy across Sunday headlined by the Match of the Round between Inter Lions FC and SD Raiders FC.

Match of the Round: Inter Lions FC 0 defeated by SD Raiders FC 5

SD Raiders FC won 5-0 against Inter Lions FC in their contest at Majors Bay Reserve on Sunday night.

Inter Lions FC battled across the whole game but couldn’t find a way past the SD Raiders FC defence. Their best chances fell to Cate Gyzen and Georgina Sarkissian in either half of the game.

SD Raiders FC were on from the opening whistle. Taiana Almeida headed home in the 5th minute then scored her second in the 26th minute. Captain Jessica Neville thumped home a 56th minute header alongside goals from Abigail Boag and substitute Anjelina Katsoras to round out the scoring.

SD Raiders FC opened the scoring in the 5th minute. Taiana Almeida nodded home from a corner to make it 1-0.

Inter Lions FC had a pair of free kicks which were delivered in by Abbey Harrison and were too close to SD Raiders FC custodian Natasha Pentecost.

Belinda Anderson-Sharp angled a ball into the path of Cate Gyzen who poked straight for Inter’s first shot of the game.

Next, Abigail Boag cut inside her defender and rolled a low shot right into the hands of Inter Lions FC keeper Ana Ivanovic.

The visitors made it 2-0 in the 26th minute. It was a superb low ball on the right which Almeida tapped home for her second of the game.

Inter Lions FC kept looking for a route back into the game. Heba El Saddick combined with Gyzen for the latter to shoot straight.

Youngster Markie Robinson tried her luck from range and her effort blazed over the crossbar as the visitors hunted a third.

Coming out of the break, SD Raiders FC picked up where they left off. Substitute Anjelina Katsoras drove into the box and tried to arrow into the bottom corner.

SD Raiders FC made it 3-0 in the 56th minute. It was a thumping header from captain Jessica Neville from the Boag corner to find the back of the net.

They pushed forward in a counterattack and went close to a fourth. Sharina Harris found space and curled an effort right at Ivanovic.

Inter Lions FC tried to cut into the deficit. Georgina Sarkissian flew down the wing before she fired an effort straight to Pentecost.

SD Raiders FC surged forward again looking for a goal. Boag found room on the left and put her effort over the bar.

Boag did find the back of the net in the 77th minute. She was on the end of a cutting counterattack and rolled home for 4-0.

Sharina Harris looked to replicate her goal from last week with a long-range strike that was pushed over by Ivanovic.

SD Raiders FC added a fifth in the 83rd minute. Boag was pinpoint with another set piece and Kasoras headed home for 5-0.

Central Coast Mariners FC 3 defeated by South Coast Flame FC 5

South Coast Flame FC won 5-3 against Central Coast Mariners FC down at Pluim Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Flame made it four games unbeaten in an eight-goal thriller. Shaylee Meehan gave the Flame the lead in the 16th minute for 1-0 then added a second in the 28th minute for 2-0. Eliza Familton brought it back to 2-1 in the 34th minute before Sariah Wilson restored their three-goal advantage in the 43rd minute for 3-1 at the break.

Mariners made it 3-2 in the 58th minute through Ava Moller then Meehan completed her hat-trick the 60th minute to make it 4-2 Flame. Bessie Riethmuller added a fifth for Flame in the 86th minute then Familton scored her second goal of the night to complete the 5-3 scoreline.

Newcastle Jets FC 4 defeated Blacktown Spartans FC 0

Newcastle Jets FC won 4-0 against Blacktown Spartans FC in their game at Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility on Sunday afternoon.

The leaders continued their unbeaten start to the season with a comfortable win against a strong Spartans side. The Jets had four different scorers in the result with Aaliyah Kilroy continuing her strong form with a goal.

The other scorers in the game were Lillia Rae, Layla Sharpe and Makayla Clifton in a win which keeps the Jets three points ahead of the chasing pack. Next up, they have a big clash against Marconi Stallions at home next weekend.

Nepean FC 2 drew with Camden Tigers FC 2

Nepean FC and Camden Tigers FC played out a 2-2 draw at Jamison Park Field 1 on Sunday afternoon.

It was a tense and engrossing contest between two sides who left it all out on the pitch in Penrith. The to sides traded goals from a corner with Paris Staal heading home for Nepean FC while Camden Tigers swept home a corner themselves for 1-1.

The hosts retook the lead again through Staal who bagged a brace to make it 2-1 before a stunning strike from Jiselle Petrovski snatched a point for the Tigers for 2-2 in a entertaining game of football.

Sutherland Strikers FC 3 defeated St George FC 1

Sutherland Strikers FC were 3-1 winners against St George FC in their game at Harrie Denning Centre on Sunday afternoon.

All the action came in the first half of this contest. Jasmine Maguire made it 1-0 for Sutherland Strikers FC in the 12th minute before Matilda McParland doubled their advantage in the 21st minute for 2-0.

Paola Andrea Giraldo Uribe made it 3-0 for Sutherland Strikers FC in the 26th minute to cap off a whirlwind start. St George FC pulled one back through Janan Codmani in the 36th minute to make it 3-1 at the break.

The game went to a different gear in the second half but Sutherland Strikers FC keeper Chantelle Symes made a magnificent save on the Saints to keep the two-goal advantage. Strikers saw out the rest of the game to record three crucial points.

Bankstown City Lions FC 0 defeated by Marconi Stallions FC 5

Marconi Stallions FC won 5-0 against Bankstown City Lions FC at Jensen Park on Sunday evening.

The Stallions put on a five-star performance to record their fifth win on the bounce. Pene Bonovas made it 1-0 for the hosts in the 19th minute then Charmaine Marquinez scored to make it 2-0 in the 23rd minute before Bonovas slotted home a penalty for 3-0 in the 36th minute.

Marconi Stallions FC stampeded to further goals in the second half. Bonovas collected a hat-trick in the 75th minute for 4-0 then Hannah Voloder found the back of the net in the 83rd minute to make it 5-0.

Blacktown City FC had the bye
