Round 21 Preview – League One Women’s

Round 21 in the Football NSW League One Women’s competition shapes as another crucial weekend as we enter the final month of the campaign.

There are six games to look forward to across Sunday afternoon, headlined by the Match of the Round between St George FC and Marconi Stallions FC.

Match of the Round: St George FC vs Marconi Stallions FC

Sunday 19 July, 4:30pm, Barton Park

St George FC take on Marconi Stallions FC in the Match of the Round at Barton Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Saints were beaten 3-0 by a clinical Blacktown Spartans FC side in their clash at Barton Park last weekend.

Vital to St George FC’s success this season has been the contribution of Janan Codmani and Caitlin Webster, who have both produced important goals for the side.

St George FC have shown plenty of promise in recent weeks but will be looking to turn those performances into three points at home.

Marconi Stallions FC were held to a 1-1 draw against Inter Lions FC at Majors Bay Reserve last Sunday.

Defender Emma Voloder has been a consistent performer in the backline for Marconi and popped up with a crucial goal to help keep them in second spot.

Up front, Jasmyn Windsor has returned from injury over the past two weeks and will be eager to find the back of the net on Sunday.

Bankstown City Lions FC vs SD Raiders FC

Sunday 19 July, 4:30pm, Jensen Park

Bankstown City Lions FC welcome league leaders SD Raiders FC to Jensen Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Lions played out a 0-0 draw against Central Coast Mariners FC at Pluim Park last weekend.

Goalkeeper Natalie Milenkovski has started the last two matches for Bankstown City Lions FC and has provided strong performances between the sticks.

Going forward, the Lions will need Krystallia Kallidakis to find the back of the net if they are to cause an upset against the league leaders.

SD Raiders FC secured a 1-0 victory over Nepean FC at Ernie Smith Reserve last Sunday afternoon.

Abigail Boag was the hero for the Raiders, scoring the match-winning goal as they continued their impressive season while chasing silverware.

Defenders Layne Knight and Jessica Neville have formed a strong partnership at the back and helped SD Raiders FC secure another clean sheet.

Sutherland Strikers FC vs Blacktown City FC

Sunday 19 July, 5pm, Harrie Dening Centre

Sutherland Strikers FC host Blacktown City FC at Harrie Dening Centre on Sunday afternoon.

The Strikers secured a 2-1 comeback victory over Camden Tigers FC in their trip to Camden last weekend.

Super-sub Olivia Lysak scored both goals in just her second game back, giving coach Guillermo Rubio another attacking option heading into the final stages of the season.

Sutherland will also rely on experienced players Lara Coward and captain Dianne Wilson as they look to secure another three points.

Blacktown City FC showed moments of promise despite their 4-0 defeat to Newcastle Jets FC in last weekend’s Match of the Round.

Despite the result, Molly Reckless once again showed she can strike from anywhere and will provide a threat for the Strikers defence.

Blacktown City FC have proven difficult opposition for many finals contenders and will look to Ava Luburic to lead the line once again.

Central Coast Mariners FC vs Camden Tigers FC

Sunday 19 July, 5pm, Pluim Park

Central Coast Mariners FC take on Camden Tigers FC at Pluim Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Mariners played out a 0-0 draw against Bankstown City Lions FC in their latest fixture at home.

They have kept two clean sheets in their last three matches, highlighting the importance of Kyara O’Brien’s return between the sticks.

It is a busy period for the Mariners, who also have their catch-up match against Marconi Stallions FC on Wednesday night.

Camden Tigers FC opened the scoring before falling to a 2-1 defeat against Sutherland Strikers FC at Ron Dine Reserve last weekend.

It has been a challenging season for Camden, but they have uncovered some promising young talent, including Trinity Gibson, who has been a consistent performer for the side.

The Tigers were defeated 5-1 in the reverse fixture and will travel north looking to gain some revenge.

Nepean FC vs Inter Lions FC

Sunday 19 July, 5pm, Jamison Park Field #1

Nepean FC face Inter Lions FC at Jamison Park Field #1 on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to league leaders SD Raiders FC at Ernie Smith Reserve last weekend.

Goalkeeper Laura Tredinnick has been one of Nepean FC’s standout performers this season and could be called upon to make some big saves once again.

Nepean have built one of the stronger defensive records in the competition but will need to find more goals if they are to keep their finals hopes alive.

Inter Lions FC played out a 1-1 draw against finals contender Marconi Stallions FC at Majors Bay Reserve.

Charlotte McLean scored her first goal for Inter Lions FC in that result and will be looking to continue her form on Sunday.

Up front, Cate Gyzen and Hannah Charak will provide another strong test for the Nepean FC defence.

Newcastle Jets FC vs South Coast Flame FC

Sunday 19 July, 5pm, Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility

Newcastle Jets FC host South Coast Flame FC at Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility on Sunday afternoon.

The Jets enter the match full of confidence after their impressive 4-0 victory over Blacktown City FC in the Match of the Round.

Lillia Rae scored twice in that performance and continues to be a key attacking weapon for Newcastle.

Alongside her, Mackenzie Preston-Poole impressed down the flank and will provide another challenge for opposition defenders.

South Coast Flame FC will make the trip north after having the bye in Round 20 of the League One Women’s competition.

Sariah Wilson was composed from the penalty spot in their previous match, a 1-1 draw against Sutherland Strikers FC, and will be looking to produce another strong performance.

The Flame dropped to fifth position while inactive, but three points away from home would put them in a strong position to secure a maiden finals appearance.

Blacktown Spartans FC have the bye.
