Round 25 of the FNSW League One Men’s competition is shaping up as one of the biggest weekends of the season, with three massive clashes taking place across Saturday.

Our Match of the Round takes us to Jensen Park for the Bankstown derby, while there is also a top-of-the-table clash and a relegation six-pointer elsewhere.

Match of the Round: Bankstown City v Canterbury Bankstown

Saturday 25 July, 5pm, Jensen Park

The most important derby yet? Bankstown City host Canterbury Bankstown in a season-defining clash at Jensen Park on Saturday afternoon.

A win for Bankstown City in Round 24 has set up this weekend’s fixture perfectly, with another victory potentially seeing them draw level with second place. Sitting on 43 points, this is perhaps the toughest fixture they will face during the run home as they chase the second-place promotion playoff spot.

That victory was important from a morale perspective following a frustrating fortnight of results. Bai Antoniou and Ryan Feutz led the way with braces, while Joshua Brillante and Isaac Danzo controlled proceedings in midfield. Panni Nikas was also pleased with the impact of his substitutes in the contest.

Looking to spoil the occasion will be Canterbury Bankstown, who saw their lengthy unbeaten run ended last weekend by Blacktown Spartans.

Two points behind their hosts heading into this one, a win is vital if they are to maintain their top-two hopes heading into the final stages of the season.

Having seen both matches against the Spartans, it was clear how much this Canterbury side has improved since their first meeting. William Kounnas remains a constant threat inside the penalty area, while Joel Beattie and Patrick Savor will also be key players to watch. This week will also see the return of John Fotopoulos.

Hakoah FC v Rydalmere Lions

Saturday 25 July, 4:30pm, Hensley Athletic Field

There is a risk Hakoah FC could see their season fade away after an underwhelming run of form. Sitting 10th, they should have enough to secure safety, but finishing the campaign with momentum will still be important.

Last weekend was the type of match where, if you are in a winning rhythm, you take all three points, but if you are struggling, moments can quickly turn against you.

Hakoah had an opportunity to take a two-goal lead against Hills United, but a missed penalty proved costly. They will be hoping for a response at home as they look to turn things around before the end of the season.

Rydalmere Lions, however, are in excellent form, winning their last three matches following changes made during the mid-season window.

After victories over Central Coast Mariners and Western City Rangers, they followed it up with a four-goal win against Inter Lions.

Continuing a theme from last weekend, two players scored braces, with Adil Toska and Kaito Satori both finding the net twice. Three of those goals came early in the second half.

Rydalmere have also been strong away from home, collecting 21 points on the road this season.

Macarthur Rams v Hurstville Zagreb

Macarthur Rams kept their top-two hopes alive with victory over Prospect United in last weekend’s Match of the Round.

Now unbeaten in five matches, the Rams return home looking to continue their charge ahead of a crucial final three rounds.

Back to the Prospect match, an Olivier Beltran-Woodward brace proved decisive in securing the three points. Another notable storyline was Griffin Barry making his second start of the season for Dan Mijovic’s side.

This will be a difficult test against a familiar opponent in Hurstville Zagreb, who the Rams have faced in both league and cup competition this season.

The visitors will be looking to finish strongly after defeating Dulwich Hill last weekend.

Alessandro Lacalandra once again found the back of the net, while midfielder George Antonis contributed with another strong individual performance. Michael Vakis sealed the result with a late goal in stoppage time.

Northern Tigers v Blacktown Spartans

Saturday 25 July, 4:30pm, North Turramurra Recreation Area

If the Bankstown derby is not for you, there is also a top-two clash taking place on Saturday afternoon as Northern Tigers host Blacktown Spartans at North Turramurra Recreation Area.

Northern Tigers continue to fight strongly for a top-two finish in 2026. Sitting seven points behind the Spartans, they have an opportunity to significantly close the gap with a fourth win in five matches.

Last weekend, they defeated Central Coast Mariners away from home in a performance that showed their continued improvement. That progress was highlighted by a stunning Austin Oates volley in the 78th minute.

The Tigers have also been difficult to beat at home, losing just once at North Turramurra Recreation Area this season.

Blacktown Spartans, meanwhile, could effectively secure their return to the top tier with three points here.

Holding a seven-point advantage over their opponents, the Spartans enter the fixture after a hard-fought victory over Canterbury Bankstown in Round 24.

Those types of matches have arguably been where they have impressed most this season from a mentality perspective. Having Aedon Kyra leading the line has certainly helped, while Jayden Tran was also impressive in attack last weekend.

Back-to-back away victories have also put to bed any concerns about their road form.

Dulwich Hill v Western City Rangers

Saturday 25 July, 5pm, Arlington Oval

If a relegation six-pointer is more your style, Dulwich Hill host Western City Rangers in a crucial contest between two sides heading in contrasting directions.

Dulwich Hill will be hoping home-ground advantage can help turn their fortunes around after a difficult run of form has seen them slip into a potential relegation battle.

Their positive start to the season is beginning to fade, and a clash against the team directly below them on the ladder carries significant importance.

Last weekend, they were unable to crack the Penshurst Park challenge, falling to defeat against Hurstville Zagreb.

A second-half goal from Samuel Hovar brought them back into the contest before they conceded late. They can take confidence from winning the first meeting between these two sides.

Western City Rangers, meanwhile, have no such concerns after winning two of their last three matches and moving off the bottom of the table.

Last weekend, they secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over Newcastle Jets Academy at Popondetta Park, with Reuben Awaritefe scoring a hat-trick.

This match represents a major opportunity for Rangers to claim their first victory over a non-academy opponent since Round Five.

Inter Lions v Prospect United

Inter Lions suffered their first home defeat in a long time last weekend against Rydalmere Lions.

A run stretching back to Anzac Day came to an end, and they will be eager to respond while taking another step towards the 30-point mark.

A costly period during the match ultimately decided their fate, with three goals conceded during that spell.

With a challenging run of fixtures ahead, securing a positive result here will be important to ensure they are not dragged into the relegation battle.

One thing we know heading into this contest is that it will not be easy, with several sides discovering just how competitive Prospect United can be.

In last weekend’s Match of the Round, Prospect pushed Macarthur Rams all the way and were unfortunate not to claim something from the match.

Liam Bajada was a bright spot from an attacking perspective, scoring a quality goal and combining well with Dimos Vlachos throughout the contest.

The two sides shared the points in their first meeting, and Prospect will believe they can go one better this time around.

Newcastle Jets v Hills United

Saturday 25 July, 5pm, Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility

Results elsewhere have dragged Newcastle Jets into a relegation battle heading into the final six matches of the season.

Following nine matches without a win, the Jets sit just five points above Western City Rangers in 15th position.

Last weekend, they suffered a narrow defeat away to Rangers in a tight contest.

Kai Thompson’s performance in front of goal was the major positive, with his brace keeping the Jets competitive.

Can a return home provide the spark they need for a crucial victory?

Hills United enter the fixture with renewed confidence after securing their 10th win of the season against Hakoah FC at Valentine Sports Park.

The challenge now is finding consistency as the season reaches its conclusion.

Against Hakoah, Hills came from behind after a missed penalty changed the momentum of the match.

Cameron Philp played an important role in both goals, with Walid Moutaouakkil and Noah Miller finding the back of the net.

Full of confidence, Hills will be looking to reverse the result from the first meeting between the sides back in April.

Central Coast Mariners v Bulls FC Academy

Sunday 26 July, 3pm, Pluim Park

Central Coast Mariners will be searching for their first victory since Round 15 when they host Bulls FC Academy this weekend.

One of two academy sides struggling for consistency recently, the Mariners face a run of fixtures against teams around them on the ladder over the coming weeks.

Last weekend, they were competitive against Northern Tigers and pushed them throughout the contest.

Max Naylor scored shortly after half-time to bring the Mariners level, with the two sides having previously shared the points in their first meeting.

Bulls FC Academy enter the contest after suffering a heavy defeat against Bankstown City last weekend.

Six points ahead of their opponents, Bulls remain unbeaten across their three academy match-ups this season.

Against Bankstown, they struggled to create enough opportunities to trouble their opponents and will be looking for a response.

There is also the possibility of an Australia Cup interruption following their midweek cup fixture.
