A New Home, A New Chapter: Arncliffe Aurora Opens Riverine Park

Football St George’s Arncliffe Aurora Football Club celebrated a major milestone on Saturday, 8 August, with more than 2,500 people attending the community opening of the club’s new home at Riverine Park.

Players, families and members of the wider Bayside community came together throughout the day for junior and senior football, presentations and a range of community activities, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the club.

The new Riverine Park facilities provide Arncliffe Aurora with access to two full-size natural turf football fields, modern player and community amenities and a new clubhouse, significantly increasing the club’s capacity to support its growing football programs.

The opening also marked the first Arncliffe Aurora matches played at Riverine Park, providing a fitting start to a new era for a club that has experienced significant growth in recent years, particularly across its junior programs.

Arncliffe Aurora Football Club President Fadia Mehanna said the opening represented an important moment in the club’s history and its future.

“Riverine Park is an incredibly proud moment for Arncliffe Aurora and our entire community. Our club has grown significantly over the years, and these outstanding new facilities give us the opportunity to continue that journey, provide more opportunities for our players and develop the next generation of footballers,” Mehanna said.

“To see more than 2,500 people come together to celebrate the opening shows what this club means to our families and the wider community. Riverine Park is about much more than football fields and a clubhouse – it is a place for our community to come together and something we can all be proud of for generations to come.”

Bayside Council General Manager Meredith Wallace said the project represented an important investment in the future of football and sport across the local community.

“The opening of Riverine Park is an exciting milestone for Arncliffe Aurora and the Bayside community. Riverine Park represents a significant investment in the future of football in Bayside,” Wallace said.

“With state-of-the-art amenities, two full-size natural turf fields and the dedication and commitment of Arncliffe Aurora Football Club, together we are creating a premier sporting destination that honours the club’s proud history while supporting the next generation of players and the wider community.”

Football St George CEO Gary Lockwood said the opening was a landmark moment for both Arncliffe Aurora and football across the region.

“This is a facility the club and the entire community can be incredibly proud of. A tremendous amount of hard work, dedication and community effort has gone into bringing this project to life, and Saturday was really the culmination of all that work,” Lockwood said.

“From Football St George’s perspective, this is also a landmark moment for us. It’s a fantastic example of what our clubs are capable of achieving when they are given the opportunity, support and resources to grow and develop their facilities.

“It was fantastic to see so many people coming together to celebrate not just the facility, but the community that sits behind it. Facilities like this create opportunities to grow our sport, encourage more people to get involved and, importantly, provide opportunities for players of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.”

Lockwood encouraged the wider community to visit the new facility and experience what Riverine Park has to offer.

“We would encourage everyone to get down to Riverine, have a look at this fantastic new facility and experience it for themselves. It’s a great place to come together, enjoy football and spend a day with the community,” he said.

The opening of Riverine Park provides Arncliffe Aurora with significant additional capacity to grow its football programs, create further opportunities for players and families, and strengthen the club’s connection with the wider Bayside community.

It also represents an important investment in the continued growth of football across Bayside and the broader St George region, providing a modern home where future generations can learn, play and enjoy the game.
