Regional JDL Gala Day showcases football development in Goulburn
Players and coaches from across regional NSW descended on Goulburn on Sunday, 16 August for the 2026 Football NSW Regional JDL Gala Day.
Held at Cookbundoon Sporting Complex in partnership with Southern Tablelands Football Association, the event welcomed 29 teams across the U10 Boys, U10 Girls, U11 Boys, U12 Boys and U12 Girls age groups, alongside non-competition football for U9 players.
The Gala Day offered something different from the regular weekend competition, bringing together Regional JDL associations from Western Branch, Southern Branch and Riverina to face opposition from other areas of the state.
Football NSW Regional Football Development’s Andrew Fearnley highlighted the benefits of bringing the different programs together for both players and coaches.
“It’s a good avenue for the associations to play teams they wouldn’t normally face throughout the season, while also allowing us to work with coaches and help with their development,” Fearnley said.
Beyond the action on the pitch, Football NSW delivered dedicated coach workshops, while staff had the opportunity to observe teams and coaches in a match environment.
For the young players, facing unfamiliar opposition provided a new challenge and an opportunity to experience football beyond their usual Saturday competition, with enjoyment remaining at the heart of the day.
The Regional JDL Gala Day provided another valuable opportunity to connect regional associations while supporting the continued development of players and coaches across NSW.
Football NSW thanks Southern Tablelands Football Association and all participating associations, players, coaches, officials and families for contributing to a successful day in Goulburn.
