Football NSW Introduces Futsal Club Standards To Support Elite Club Development

Football NSW has introduced a new Futsal Club Standards framework designed to support the ongoing growth, development and sustainability of clubs participating in the organisation’s Elite Futsal competitions.

The initiative provides clubs with a supportive benchmarking tool to identify strengths, areas for development and opportunities to continue enhancing their operations both on and off the pitch.

The Club Standards will be benchmarked annually and take a weighted approach across six key areas:

• Sporting
• Infrastructure
• Operations
• Technical
• Legal
• Financial

The framework has been developed to establish best practice across the Football NSW Futsal footprint while supporting clubs to achieve greater levels of excellence and sustainability.

It will also provide a clearer pathway for clubs seeking eligibility and progression into higher-level competitions, including Football Australia, ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) and Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Club Championships.

The initiative will be delivered in phases to allow clubs and Football NSW to progressively develop and refine the framework.

Phase One

2026 – Preliminary Delivery

The initial year will focus on introducing the framework, establishing benchmarks and providing clubs with an understanding of the standards and expectations.

2027 – Confidential Delivery

The benchmarking process will continue, with club results remaining confidential while clubs work on strengthening their respective environments.

2028 – Public Delivery

The Club Standards will move towards public delivery, providing greater transparency around the standards being achieved across the Elite Futsal competitions.

Clubs will be recognised across four classifications:

• Gold
• Silver
• Bronze
• Committed to Development

The classifications are designed to recognise clubs at different stages of development while encouraging continuous improvement across the competition.

Phase Two

From 2029 and beyond, the framework will expand further to incorporate technical development and evaluation specific to each club.

This next phase will provide an increased focus on the technical environment within individual clubs and further support their long-term development.

The Futsal Club Standards also aim to ensure greater alignment between Football NSW, Member Federations and clubs as futsal continues to develop strategically across Australia.

Ultimately, the framework is designed to support clubs rather than simply assess them, providing clear benchmarks and practical direction to help create stronger, more sustainable and high-performing futsal environments both on and off the pitch.

Through the introduction of the Futsal Club Standards, Football NSW is continuing its commitment to developing excellence across the Elite Futsal competitions and strengthening the broader futsal pathway across NSW.
