$17.5 Million Newington Reserve Transformation Delivers Major Boost For Football

Football in the Parramatta region has received a major boost with the completion of the $17.5 million transformation of Newington Reserve, providing local players, clubs and families with a state-of-the-art sporting and recreation destination.

The redevelopment has delivered a new synthetic sports field, modern sports pavilion, outdoor fitness equipment, BBQ facilities, improved parking and upgraded landscaping, creating a facility designed to support the community and grassroots sport throughout the year.

For local footballers, the new synthetic pitch will provide greater opportunities to train and play regardless of weather conditions, while offering clubs a high-quality environment for player development and participation.

Football NSW CEO John Tsatsimas said the opening of the redeveloped facility highlighted what could be achieved through collaboration between government, local councils and sporting organisations.

“Newington Reserve is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when local government, government agencies and sporting organisations work together to invest in the future of community sport,” Tsatsimas said.

“Football continues to experience significant growth across NSW, and facilities such as Newington Reserve are vital in ensuring players of all ages and abilities have access to high-quality, safe and inclusive environments to play and develop.”

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Martin Zaiter said the project reflected the community’s desire for high-quality infrastructure that brings people together while supporting the continued growth of grassroots sport.

“Newington Reserve is our newest premier sport and recreation destination that local families in Newington, Silverwater and surrounds can enjoy for many years to come,” Zaiter said.

“This investment in our growing community is a fantastic example of residents helping shape the future of their local neighbourhood, setting up the next generation of footballers for success.

“We’ve worked with the community to deliver a high-quality recreational space that is accessible, modern and supports local sports participation.”

The redevelopment follows extensive community consultation, with almost 70 per cent of respondents supporting the proposed upgrade.

Feedback highlighted the need for improved sporting facilities, greater recreational opportunities and a dedicated home for local football clubs.

Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said the transformation demonstrated the benefits of investment in facilities that support grassroots sport and bring communities together.

“This new facility will provide more opportunities for local players and sporting clubs to train and compete year-round, while giving families a quality space to be active and enjoy sport close to home,” Kamper said.

“Investing in grassroots sport is an investment in healthier, more connected communities, and the NSW Government is proud to support projects that deliver these benefits for years to come.”

The new synthetic pitch has also been designed with environmental considerations in mind.

The surface features an organic timber-based infill, replacing traditional rubber and providing a more sustainable alternative.

The combination of dual fibres and wood infill is designed to provide a surface that feels and responds more like natural grass while maintaining the traction and durability required for regular sporting use.

Complementing the new pitch is the architecturally designed Newington Reserve Pavilion, which features home and away change rooms with integrated showers and toilets, public amenities and a field-facing kiosk.

The wider redevelopment also includes outdoor fitness equipment, BBQ facilities, improved parking and landscaping, ensuring Newington Reserve caters not only for football but for the broader community.

With football continuing to grow across NSW, the redevelopment represents a significant investment in the future of grassroots participation in the Parramatta region.

For local clubs and players, the message is simple: there is now a modern, accessible and high-quality facility ready to help them play, train and develop all year round.
