Vezos And Lewis Earn Alpha Awards Finalist Recognition
NSW football photography has received a boost with Football NSW photographer Andrew Vezos and fellow NSW photographer Georgia Lewis both named finalists in the 2026 Alpha Awards.
Vezos’ photograph, titled ‘Goal. Behind the goal’ following a shot from this year’s NPL Men’s NSW competition match between Rockdale Ilinden v St George FC, has been shortlisted in the Sports category and will be displayed as part of the Alpha Awards Gallery at SceneScape in Melbourne.
The recognition is a fantastic achievement for Vezos, who has been a valued member of the Football NSW photography team, capturing countless moments across Football NSW competitions throughout the season.
From spectacular goals and dramatic celebrations to the emotion and atmosphere surrounding the game, Vezos has consistently helped tell the story of NSW football through his photography.
Football NSW Media Manager Mark Stavroulakis congratulated Vezos on the recognition.
“It’s fantastic to see Andrew’s work recognised at this level, and we’re incredibly proud of him,” Stavroulakis said.
“Andrew has been a fantastic contributor to our Football NSW coverage and we see the quality of his work every week. To have one of his images selected as an Alpha Awards finalist is a wonderful achievement.”
Also receiving recognition is fellow NSW photographer Georgia Lewis, whose image from this year’s Ninja A-League Women’s competition, featuring Melbourne City and Wellington Phoenix, has also been shortlisted.
The recognition of both photographers highlights the quality of football photography being produced across NSW and the important role photographers play in capturing and telling the stories of the game.
The Alpha Awards recognise outstanding photographic work captured by Sony Alpha photographers, with the finalists now in contention for the respective awards.
The 2026 Alpha Awards presentation ceremony will take place on Saturday, 3 October at the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne, with finalists invited to attend.
