League ONE Womens Review Round 23

Round 23 in the Football NSW League One Women’s competition was another fantastic weekend of football which saw 38 goals plundered across the weekend.

We have seven games to review this weekend highlighted by the Match of the Round between Bankstown City Lions FC and Blacktown City FC.

Let’s get onto the review.

Match of the Round: Bankstown City Lions FC 6 defeated Blacktown City FC 0

Bankstown City Lions FC won 6-0 against Blacktown City FC down at Jensen Park on Sunday night.

Bankstown City Lions FC consolidated third place with the result. Aya Seino opened the scoring in the 3rd minute then Greguric made it 2-0 in the 13th minute. Both collected a brace in the first half with goals in the 30th and 42nd minute to make it 4-0. Karen Bennett added a fifth in the 53rd minute then Chiara Cencigh rounded it off in stoppage time for 6-0.

Blacktown City FC battled hard but couldn’t find a way through the Lions defence after conceding four goals in the first half. They did have chances through Eloise Hansen and Amber Precious while Olivia Moar did see red in the 60th minute for a second yellow.

Both Bankstown City Lions FC and Blacktown City FC headed onto the pitch at Jensen Park ready to battle for three points.

Bankstown City Lions FC made it 1-0 in the 3rd minute. It was a swift counter from the Lions which ended with Aya Seino firing home.

The Lions quickly made it 2-0 in the 13th minute. Seino turned provider for Chelsea Greguric who tapped home well.

Blacktown City FC found their rhythm in the contest and were creating on the wing but couldn’t find the final touch to pressure Bankstown City Lions FC keeper Keeley Segavcic.

Eloise Hansen tried to inspire the side with an individual effort. She spied Segavcic off her line and tried to chip the custodian.

Next, the ball fell to Amber Precious inside the box for Blacktown City FC but she only poked it wide of the mark.

Bankstown City Lions FC absorbed the pressure and made it 3-0 in the 30th minute. Seino had a shot parried by Blacktown City FC keeper Amy Harkin into the path of Greguric to slot home.

Claire Witton had a big chance from a set piece. She drove in the free-kick which was pushed wide by Ivanovic for a corner.

The hosts made it 4-0 in the 42nd minute from the spot. Seino was fouled and dusted herself off to nestle the ball into the bottom corner.

Bankstown City Lions FC kept up the pressure after the break. Karen Bennett was found in space and denied twice by Harkin.

Bennett made use of her second chance and made it 5-0. The ball was threaded through to the winger who is rocking the Mary Fowler look and arrowed home in the 53rd minute.

The job was made harder for Blacktown City FC when Olivia Moar saw red on the hour mark after her second yellow card of the game.

The visitors had a few chances despite being down to ten. Zoe Zaczek had a tame shot then Hansen curled in a free-kick right at Segavcic.

Maya Miller tried to add the Lions advantage. The youngster surged forward and drove an effort right at Harkin.

The Lions continued to press forward and were hungry for goals. They blazed one over then Harada drilled one straight at Harkin.

Harada went close again in the 83rd minute. She spun away from the defence and forced Harkin into a diving save.

Bankstown City Lions FC added a sixth in stoppage time. It was a lighting fast counter which ended with Chiara Cencigh slotting home.

Post match, Bankstown City Lions FC coach Ante Covic reflected on a dominant win for his side to finish off the round:

“It was a solid win, it was a performance which was pleasing and we had some great interchanges of passes and was our best combinations of the season. It could’ve been much more but we move onto next week and try to continue this good run.” said Covic.

For Blacktown City FC coach Michael Hawthorne, the second half performance was much better for his side especially their effort.

South Coast Flame FC 5 defeated Nepean FC 0

South Coast Flame FC won 5-0 against Nepean FC down at Sir Ian McLennan Park on Saturday night.

The Flame got back in the winner’s circle in comfortable fashion as they aim to finish the season with a flourish. The hosts were made to work for the win after Nepean FC repelled them in the first half to head to the break at 0-0.

Mikayla De Jong made it 1-0 in the 58th minute which opened the floodgates then Lisa Prior found the back of the net for 2-0 in the 67th minute. Jessica Cruickshank added the third in the 72nd minute before Emily Kostovski made it 4-0 in the 84th minute then Prior got her second to round off the 5-0 win in the 88th minute.

Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC 7 defeated Marconi Stallions FC 0

Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC won 7-0 against Marconi Stallions FC down at Popondetta Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Town Rangers march on towards the title with another dominant win on their home ground in Round 23. Rosaria Galea opened the scoring for 1-0 in the 6th minute then doubled her delight in the 14th minute for 2-0 followed by Leena Khamis making it 3-0 in the 39th minute.

The title chasers kept their foot on the gas in the second half. Rita Boateng scored on her return to the side for 4-0 in the 57th minute then Khamis added her second for 5-0 in the 63rd minute. Sheiden Jabour scored for 6-0 in the 86th minute then Khamis completed her hat-trick in stoppage time for 7-0.

Central Coast Mariners FC 6 defeated South East Phoenix FC 0

Central Coast Mariners FC were 6-0 winners against South East Phoenix FC at Pluim Park on Sunday afternoon.

The yellow-and-navy shook off their midweek disappointment to record a valuable three points at home. Shani Cooney-Cross made it 1-0 in the 14th minute then Eliza Familton slotted home a penalty for 2-0 after 28 minutes before Andie Chaseling and Rachel Glendenning found the back of the net 30th and 36th minute for a 4-0 lead at the break.

Mariners scored twice in the second half to confirm the win. Substitute Peyton Scollay made it 5-0 in the 49th minute then defender Sara Piriz scored to make it 6-0 in the 51st minute to put the icing on the cake.

Inter Lions FC 0 defeated by Camden Tigers FC 1

Camden Tigers FC won 1-0 against Inter Lions FC down at Majors Bay Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers get another three points as they keep up their challenge to finish the highest they can in the League One Women’s competition. It was a tight tussle in this game as neither team found a break through in the first half and it went to the sheds at 0-0.

Camden broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute through Cassidy Chambers to make it 1-0 with her header. The Tigers had to dig deep after Ashleigh Long saw red in the 73rd minute but they held off the late roaring Lions to take the win.

Sutherland Strikers FC 1 defeated by St George FC 9

St George FC won 9-1 against Sutherland Strikers FC down at Harrie Denning Centre on Sunday afternoon.

The Saints move into the top four with that big win over their local rivals. Sutherland Strikers FC opened the scoring through Tori Tumeth to make it 1-0 in the 15th minute before Janan Codmani equalized for 1-1 in the 17th minute. Kyla Vanderlaan completed for St George FC in the 20th minute for 2-1 at half-time.

St George FC were ruthless in the second half in their pursuit of goals. Jaslyn Moore made it 3-1 in the 58th minute then Jordan Baker found the back of the net for 4-1 in the 69th minute before there was a late onslaught.

Alexia Saltirov scored for 5-1 in the 75th minute then Vanderlaan collected her second in the 82nd minute before Codmani earned her brace for 7-1 in the 85th minute. Nicole Besz fired home for 8-1 in the 86th minute then substitute Rebecca Cousins made it 9-1 in the 88th minute.

Hills United FC 1 defeated by SD Raiders FC 2

SD Raiders FC were 2-1 winners against Hills United FC down at Bella Vista Public School on Sunday afternoon.

That result moves them back to the top of the League One Women’s ladder heading in the final stages of the season. It was a nervy first half for both sides who needed the points and chances were at a premium in the 0-0 scoreline at the break.

The game opened up in the second half and Hills United FC struck first. Kaylie Shannon bundled home for 1-0 in the 50th minute before Madeleine Malone levelled for SD Raiders FC at 1-1 in the 61st minute after a double save from Hills keeper Sarah Easthope.

SD Raiders FC took the spoils late in the contest through Sarah Mandile. The substitute brought energy when she came on and made it 2-1 in the 71st minute. She controlled a cross well then fired home the winner.
