Football NSW wins NSW Sports Safety Award

award

Presented at the recent NSW Sports Safety Awards luncheon, the Safety award was accepted by Football NSW Risk Manager, Michelle Hanley, in recognition of the development and implementation of the Football NSW Heat Policy.
Designed to help volunteers, competition managers, clubs and associations in responding to days of extreme heat, the Hot Weather policy provides recommended temperatures for when games and training should be cancelled or postponed as well as information relating to the effects of heat on participants.
Supplementary guidelines, including a Heat Stress Index, are also provided to support the policy and assist in identifying strategies for reducing the effects of heat on players and officials such as re-scheduling games and training for cooler times in the day, increased rest breaks and ensuring regular hydration of players, officials and volunteers.
