Glavas returns to Sydney United
Former NSW Premier League champions Sydney United made a significant step towards strengthening its squad for 2008 after rekindling its relationship with former player and striker Luka Glavas.
The 22-year-old was part of United?s championship winning side in 2006 where he stole the show scoring an amazing four goals and taking out the Man of the Match medal in the Reds? emphatic 4-1 victory over the Blacktown City Demons at Marconi Stadium.
His five-star performance earned that day was rewarded with an A-League contract which has since seen Glavas play for both Perth Glory and Sydney FC before playing out the majority of last season with Victorian Premier League outfit Heidelberg United.
The Melbourne born star however was happy to have returned to his old stomping ground at the Sydney United Sports Centre.
?It?s good to be home with the club that supported me in my younger years.
?Being close to home as well as having a number of friends in the squad has made the transition back here that much easier.?
Glavas was courted by a number of NSW Premier League clubs but the obvious choice for the exciting striker was United.
?There was interest from several other clubs but there was really only one club for me and that was Sydney United.?
Having signed a one-year deal with the Reds, Glavas has been impressed with how pre-season training has commenced.
?Pre-season has been pretty tough for all of us in this past month but there are a number of positive signs within the squad.
?It?s still early days to state how we will go but our aim is to get back to winning ways and hopefully bring back that championship to Edensor Park.?
There will also be a new face that will grace the coaching dug-outs at United being former player Ivan Petkovic.
?Ivan?s a good coach.
?I had him while I was going through the ranks as a junior and I believe he will bring a lot of experience to the club in getting us back on track.?
A butcher by trade, Glavas is hoping that a good season with the Reds will once again spearhead him towards a return to the A-League.
?Of course I?d love to be part of the A-League again. Playing football full-time is a great feeling and a lifestyle I?d like to get into once more.
?I?m currently back at work as a butcher so it?s been pretty hectic along with my football commitments.?
Sydney United is celebrating its 50 year anniversary and there?s nothing the club and Glavas would love nothing more than bringing back the title to Edensor Park.
?It?s in every players objectives this season to aspire to winning as many matches in achieving that goal of making the finals series and from then on hopefully going all the way.?
