Matthew Nash Eagerly Anticipating 2008

The NSW Premier League?s Errea Goalkeeper of 2007 Matthew Nash is hoping that 2008 will be as successful as what he endured this past season after the classy custodian stood out as simply the best in the business under the posts.

The 26-year-old wowed spectators with some amazing displays under the sticks for the A.P.I.A.-Leichhardt Tigers so much so, he caught the attention of several NSW Premier League clubs.

?There were a few clubs offering contracts in the NSW Premier League but I eventually put pen to paper with the Tigers.?

Having signed a one-year deal with the club under Coach John Romeo, Nash was delighted to have made the decision to sign with the Tigers once more.

?I really like the team here at A.P.I.A. and I believe we have a decent squad worthy of finishing in the finals series.

?I?m pretty close with a number of the boys here too so that was yet another factor upon me staying with the side as well.?

After missing out on goal difference to Manly United in a finals series birth last season, Nash stated that the club?s aspirations is to play finals football in 2008.

?Certainly playing finals football is on everyone?s agenda at the club.

?It was tough to have bowed out on goal difference last season but we?re hoping that we can cop fewer injuries and suspensions come the tail end of the season in pushing us through on a more positive note.?

Romeo?s side will have the honour of defending the Johnny Warren Cup after they took it out in 2007 when they defeated Penrith Nepean United 2-0 thanks to goals from Ian King and Christian Care.

?We?d love to claim back to back cups in the Johnny Warren competition but we will just have to wait and see what happens as its still early days.?

The 26-year-old is currently in off-season mode but has been fortunate enough to have kept himself active as he has been training with A-League side Sydney FC during the NSW Premier League season break.

?I haven?t trained on a consistent basis with the club but this week I?ve been called to train as possible cover for Clint Bolton if he fails to recover from a hip injury for this weekend?s crucial re-scheduled clash against the Central Coast Mariners in Gosford on Saturday.

?Obviously Ivan (Necevski) will be first choice keeper and I?ll be second but it?s been a great experience being amongst the Sydney FC squad.?
