Proctor Challenge 2008 Wrap
This Tournament is jointly run by Football NSW and the Bathurst Districts Soccer Association for Grades 12-14-16 Girls and teams attending included the Western Branch Panthers, the local Bathurst District Association, teams from Wagga Wagga, Illawarra, Southern Tablelands and the Canberra Academy together with Association Club teams and Super Youth League from Sydney.
With 30 teams competing in the three age groups all weekend in over 60 games of football it was only the best that finally made their way to the finals on Sydney afternoon.
The Grade 12 Final saw Inter Lions defeat a very gallant Sydney University team 3-0. This was the half-time score in this match and the Sydney University girls lifted to the Inter Lions standard and this provided a very exciting second half.
Voted Most Valuable Player in the final was Georgia Klapos, from Inter Lions.
The Grade 14 Final was played out between Sydney University and Illawarra Stingrays and this was a very close match with some wonderful goalkeeping raising the level of excitement and expectation.
Finally Sydney University made up for their Club?s loss in the 121?s by eventually defeating Illawarra Stingrays by the solitary goal 1-0.
Considered the Most Valuable Player of the Final was Maria Hampouris from Sydney University.
The Grade 16 Final was a very exciting match between the Western NSW Panthers and the very strong St George team from Sydney.
The Panthers scored first in the first half and St George were very unlucky when a free-kick rocketed off the crossbar. In the second half St George were rewarded for their strong play by equalising with only minutes remaining.
The Panthers however, were not to be denied and scored the winner very late in the match.
Most Valuable Player of the Final was chose to be Meg Embleton from the Panthers.
Kelvin Moore, President of Bathurst District was very appreciative of the help Football NSW provided and feels with their future involvement this tournament will only get bigger and better.
Larry Grant, Competition Secretary, Community Football attending as Tournament Manager was very impressed with the amount of effort put in by the Association volunteers, the standard of refereeing and the attitude of the players and their supporters.
What impressed him most was the standard of play exhibited by all players in the tournament and sees this competition as a very important start to the season for the girls competitions.
