Cattanach hammers Bankstown

Manly forward Robbie Cattanach played a major role in the victory, posting a hat-trick, his first coming from a superb left foot finish which sailed past Bankstown goal-keeper Zlatko Josevski in the 22? minute of the game.
Robbie added two goals late in the second-half, in the 86? and 90? minutes, thanks to some great form from Manly midfielder Michael Lloyd-Green and 17-year old substitute striker Chris Payne.
Bankstown City Lions took control in the first ten minutes of the game following midfielder Steve Liavas? threatening crosses into the box from the right side, however Manly goalkeeper Brad Swancott was alert at the early stages of the game.
Manly was unsettled by the strong start from Bankstown City and it nearly proved costly when Bankstown was awarded a free kick in the 10? minute, however Phillip Markrys shot was blasted into the wall of Manly defenders. 
Bankstown City could not take control of the early possession, Manly began to move the ball around in the 18? minute gifting Robbie Cattanach a chance to open the scoring, however his header sailed past the right side of goal.
Manly was starting to take control with some great link-up play from Michael Lloyd-Green and Robbie Cattanach proving to unsettle the Bankstown backline. It proved to change the direction of the game, when a  21? minute chance which saw a through ball from Manly?s Roberto Hamad nearly finding striker Jamie Garside.
Manly FC pressure was rewarded in the 22? minute when Robbie Cattanach struck a left foot shot passed Bankstown City’s Zlatko Josevski.

Bankstown was beginning to lose control of their whole game plan, as Manly was dominating on all areas of the pitch.
Phil Moss? team could have had a second just three minutes later from a corner, however the goal was disallowed as Manly?s Ashley Ryan was caught in an offside position.
The latter stages of the first-half were Bankstown?s worst, and in the 34? minute a strong run from Manly?s left back Joey Schirripa found Robbie Cattanach down the same touchline, with his cross picking out Jamie Garside in the middle only for his volley to finish inches above the goal.
Jamie Garside could have been a contender for goal of the season when he caught Bankstown City goalkeeper Zlatko Josevski out of his goal, the shot from 40 metres just sailed onto the top net of the goal.
Bankstown City could have drawn level before the break when some great skill from James Monie in the 18-yard box proved to catch the Manly defence off guard, however his shot was scattered inches past the up-right.
The second-half turned into an aggressive contest with Bankstown City trying to up the tempo early on. Bankstown?s Shane Webb came close to levelling the scores only to see his header fall right into the arms of Manly?s keeper Brad Swancott.
Manly was trying to merge on the counter attack with Michael Lloyd-Green and Joey Schirripa beginning to use their pace through the middle of the park.

Their defensive plans for the night were starting to fall into place after an attempted shot from Bankstown?s Stefce Soleski was pushed away from a great tackle from Manly defender Andrew Mailer.
Manly was looking to hold their lead however Bankstown kept trying to crawl back into the game.
Robert Mileski threatened the Manly defence with his skill on the ball, however poor communication and no support dented their confidence in attack.
Bankstown City had the best chance of the night when they were awarded a free-kick just outside the 18-yard box, Manly?s defender Andrew Mailer was given a yellow card after a brutal tackle on his opposite defender Shane Webb, however the free-kick was wasteful.
The Manly side was moving the ball smoothly around the park, and it paid dividends in the 86? minute when 17-year old substitute striker Chris Payne made an explosive run in the box taking on three defenders and slotting a pass to the left for an easy tap in for Robbie Cattanach to claim his second of the night and give Manly a 2-0 lead.
The night was not over, in the 90? minute again some exciting counterattack football from the Manly side, with Michael Lloyd-Green strong run down the left side came with a splendid cross into the path of Robbie Cattanach to claim his hat-trick and all three points for Manly FC.
Manly FC coach Phil Moss spoke after the game and was very impressed with the performance from his side:
? I thought it took us until the late stages of the first-half to get our game going, but when we did we took control, our passing was of the highest quality and I was really delighted with how the team supported each other in the middle of the park.
?We need to improve on taking control of the game earlier and to not rush our passing, but I am confident that with our next game against Blacktown City we will be prepared and hopefully we can show some of the form we showed tonight.?
