Round 4 TeleChoice Premier League Review

a group of young men playing a game of football

The highly fancied Bankstown City, Blacktown City and Marconi Stallions occupy the bottom-three places on the ladder, a far-cry from last season where these three sides made up the top-three at the end of the regular season.

Sutherland Sharks were held for their first draw of the season, following three wins from three, in a replay of the Johnny Warren Cup Final.

Chris Triantis had the Blues on target for a vital victory after 55? minutes, though in-form Brad Boardman hit his fifth goal of the season in the late stages of the Belmore Sports Ground encounter to keep Sutherland?s unbeaten record intact.

Manly United re-affirmed their intentions of a great season with the scalp of the struggling Marconi Stallions.

Phil Moss? side bounced back from the loss against Sutherland last weekend with Dusan Mihajlovic, Ashley Ryan and top goal-scorer Robbie Cattanach finding the back-of-the-net to seal the points at Cromer Park.

John Turner?s Wollongong FC continues to impress in the early season ? Wollongong collected their second-win on the trot, a far cry from the poor starts to the seasons over the years.

Osagie Ederaro?s strike was enough to silence Macarthur Rams on Saturday.
In Sunday action, Penrith-Nepean United stunned Bankstown City with a big 3-0 win at Penrith?s CUA Stadium. Abbas Saad?s men have found that winning feeling, and disposed of Bankstown in impressive fashion.

Peter Tsekenis? side though, was forced to play the greater part of the match with ten-men following the red cards to Phillip Makrys and Steve Liavas.

The home-side took full advantage of their numerical advantage and sealed the win with a brace to Eric Anabalon and an injury-time goal to William Stuart.

A.P.I.A.-Leichhardt Tigers won for the first time this season.

The Tigers comprehensively defeated struggling Blacktown City Demons 3-0at Lambert Park with two goals from Robbie Younis and a single strike by Franco Parisi.

John Romeo has been hit with a tough run of injuries and suspensions, and the A.P.I.A.-Leichhardt boss finally had a full squad to select from.

In the late Sunday evening clash, Sydney United defeated West Sydney Berries 1-0 to join Sutherland Sharks on-top of the League ladder.

Sydney United had their work cut out as the Berries outplayed the home-side from start to finish.

Elsid Barkhousir?s strike just before the break was enough for the Sydney United, despite struggling against ten-men for the entire second-half.

The Berries thought they had drawn level in the 77? minute, though a controversial off-side decision denied the much improved Berries a point ? a draw certainly would have been a fairer result.
