Before the main game, as a curtain raiser there was a replay of the 1992 Super League Grand final between Avala(Known as Bonnyrigg White Eagles) and Blacktown City Demons of that era.

1992 was not the only final that these two clubs played out as both clubs have the honour of disputing the inaugural Soccer NSW Premier League Grand Final in 2001 played at Marconi Oval.

On that night, Bonnyrigg came away with the title in a fierce fought match where the then referee Boyd Mcgregor was on his toes for the duration of the game.

Upon hearing about the charity match the three match officials from the 2001 Grand Final, Sandro Perticarini, Boyd Mcgregor and Jose Da Silva put their hands up and donated their Easter Saturday towards a good cause by doing their bit to assist  Cancer research.

The thousand strong spectators were definitely entertained as on show on the night were ex Internationals Craig Foster and Greg Woodhouse. The crowd were not disappointed as eight goals were scored on the night, as Blacktown came away with the win 5-3.

Apart from the goals the crowd witnessed and enjoyed some trade mark runs and decisive passes and touches from Fozzie, in fact one them resulted in the opening goal for Bonnyrigg, however it has to be said that Greg Woodhouse stole the show making several goal stopping saves, flying through the air in the same spectacular fashion that made him number 1 for Australia.

The game was played in good spirit however in the 38th minute Boyd Mcgregor did issue out the only yellow card to Blacktown’s goalkeeper after he was spotted by the Senior Assistant leaving the field of play for some refreshments and a chat with supporters in the player’s race behind the goals.

The curtain raiser ended with all three teams being applauded by the spectators.

Soon after, the main match was played where Blacktown City Demons took out the Dusan Cirjanic Memorial Trophy winning 4-2 on a penalty shoot out after the game ended scoreless.

Referee Kris Griffith Jones, Assistant Referee’s Dale Fuda and Brett Hookham also donated their Easter Saturday for a good cause.
