Hungry A.P.I.A.-Leichhardt Tigers hit Penrith Nepean United for Seven
However, despite the lofty scoreline Tigers? coach, John Romeo, was playing it all with a straight bat after the game.
?Look, I am very happy and proud of the boys, but a win is a win,? he said. ?In the end why would I get carried away with a 7-0 result this week and lose next week?
?The secret to our success, both today and in general, is to give young players a chance and this is obviously something that doesn?t happen at all clubs.
?We?ll take the win today but, as always, we remain with our feet firmly planted to the ground because next week is just another game.
?I won?t single out any of our players, suffice to say that it was a fabulous team effort and that, as a coach, I don?t just look at the goals tally because I focus also on how the goals were created.?
In the 3? minute a great shot by Marton Vass finished just wide and into the side netting in what looked like a goal from a distance.
Mark Byrnes, formerly of A-League clubs Perth Glory and Melbourne Victory, shortly afterwards set-up Vass again but his powerful drive once ended up just wide.
In the 14? minute Eric Anabalon tried his luck for Penrith with a sliding shot that was well saved by A.P.I.A. goalkeeper Matthew Nash.
A.P.I.A. opened the scoring in the 21? minute when Franco Parisi set-up David D?Apuzzo after a fast flowing move ended with the clever defender beating Daniel Schwarzer with his neat finish.
In the 37? minute a precise cross from the right by Nathan Ralph found replacement Nick Tsattalios, but his header didn?t have too much power on it.
In the 44? minute Panagiotis Nikas was sent off for a challenge from behind on Stephen Kayes and from the subsequent free-kick A.P.I.A. scored again. Robert Younis neatly beat the wall and Schwarzer unfortunately couldn?t hold onto the ball which slid into the bottom left hand corner of the net.
After a cautious start to the second-half, A.P.I.A. scored three goals in a short space of time to put the contest well beyond the grasp of Penrith-Nepean.
In the 56?minute A.P.I.A. scored their third goal when Byrnes found D?Apuzzo on the run and the former Australian Under-17 representative once more found the back of the net.
Four minutes later and it was goal time again: Joe Bruni cleverly found Younis who dribbled past a defender and brilliantly placed the ball into the back of the net from close-range.
In the 65? minute A.P.I.A. were on song for a fifth time when Stephen Kayes ran all the way down the right-hand side of the pitch and with a delightful cross found the deadly Younis who scored his third.
It was one of those days for Younis who hardly put a foot wrong. Every thing he touched turned to gold and, more precisely, a Tigers goal.
In the 78? minute Younis had his fourth when a fast moving build-up ended up in the Penrith area and the man with the Midas touch couldn?t help himself but score once more.
In the 83? minute Franco Parisi decided it was his time to get his name on the scoresheet when his powerful shot – albeit thanks to a wicked deflection off a defender ? found its way past Schwarzer in goal.
