Despite the side performing admirably throughout the current TeleChoice Premier League season 2008, results have not been so forthcoming ? yet despite the sluggish run to-date, with five matches remaining, Peter Tsekenis? side remain in the hunt for a final season push for the Top-Five.
In Round 17 Bankstown City defeated staunch rival Sydney Olympic with a convincing 3-0 result, the win cutting Sydney Olympic?s lead over the Lions to five-points.
With five matches remaining in the regular season, the belief amongst the Bankstown City players is still high despite the work still at hand.
Player/Coach Peter Tsekenis spoke praise of his side?s performance against the Pre-Season favourites (Sydney Olympic) and remained confident that his team could produce the goods to reach another finals-series:
?I am extremely happy with the win tonight (against Sydney Olympic), the boys showed great spirit out there and we deserved to get the win.
?We have played some great football throughout the season and although there still is quite a bit of work to do to reach our objective, we are confident that we are good enough to do the job.?
The team from Jensen Park has played some of the most attractive football this season, though their results have not been so kind. Peter Tsekenis shares the idea of the good performances, though puts the results down to some bad luck in-front of goal:
?Like I said we have played some great football throughout the season. Our problem has been scoring goals ? we?ve obviously lacked a bit of composure in-front of goal, even a bit of luck at times.
?The win tonight proved that we are capable of playing well and scoring goals, we?ve hit seven without conceding in the past two matches so our goal is to continue down this road.?
Bankstown City face League leader Sutherland Sharks this coming weekend, a difficult proposition for the Lions ? yet still a must win match if the dream of Finals Football is to remain alive.
?We?re taking it one match at a time, that is all we can do at this point. I am confident that the boys are more than capable of continuing the good form we?ve shown recently, we have been very solid.
?We?ll take it one match at a time and I?m sure if we win our matches that we can reach our objective ? we will require this fighting spirit to continue though,? concluded Tsekenis.
