Robbie Younis signs for Adelaide United
Younis has put pen to paper on a two year deal with The Reds and joins Adelaide United as the current leading goal scorer in the TeleChoice Premier League this season (17 goals from 20 appearances).
Younis becomes the 22nd player on Adelaide United’s list and the seventh new signing for the 2008/09 season, his acquisition adding further potency to The Reds attack, which already comprises of proven goal scorers Paul Agostino and Cristiano.
Adelaide United Coach Aurelio Vidmar had kept a close check on Younis’ progress with the A.P.I.A.-Leichhardt Tigers in Sydney, and believes he has qualities to add to United’s squad.
Younis spent a week trialling with United prior to his signing, Vidmar impressed by the former Australian Schoolboy representative’s work rate and attitude, believing he has what it takes to make the step up and be a threat at national level.
“Robert will be a great addition to our squad. He is a proven goal scorer in the TeleChoice Premier League and after watching him in the trial game against Para Hills, we think he has what it takes to go to the next level, to back up Cristiano and Paul Agostino as the squad’s third striker,” Vidmar said.
The 22 year old put on an impressive display in The Reds’ trial match against local Super League club Para Hills last week, winning a penalty and then finding the back of the net in an impressive second halfdisplay.
Having now secured a contract with The Reds, Younis is looking forward to the challenges and experiences ahead in Adelaide.
“I’m really excited, it’s a dream come true and I’m looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Hyundai A-League and proving I can play, especially after the faith Aurelio Vidmar put in me,” Younis said.
“Adelaide United has a good foundation, there are a good bunch of guys here and I look forward to being part of a successful club and the first team to have made it into the second round of the AFC Champions League.”
Younis will join United’s squad once his commitments with A.P.I.A.-Leichhardt Tigers are completed.
