Viareggio Tournament Update: Sydney Tigers smash A.S.D. Capezzano for six
As early as the third minute Sydney Tigers took the lead with a rehearsed set-play. A Callum McGrouther long throw aimed to the back post was not dealt with by the Italain defence. Andrew Casali made a nuisance of himself, enough so that the ball popped to the edge of the area for the waiting Jason Trifiro. Trifiro steadied before letting fly with a venomous volley that struck Liam McConaghy in the back and rolled into the net.
Capezzano replied in style in the tenth minute, striker Bigazzi blasting a swerving half-volley from 30 metres into the top corner, deceiving Michael Rutherford in the Tigers’ goal.
The game swung from end-to-end without either side stamping their authority for the next 15 minutes, both teams working the ball through midfield with-out and end result.
In the 25th minute, poor discipline by the Italians earned Apia a free-kick 30 metres from goal. Captain Adrian Maruzza swung over the dead-ball in another training ground move, finding an un-marked McConaghy who couldn?t believe his luck when the ball fell at his feet 3-yards-out, the big striker calmly slotting home.
The 39th minute marked Tigers’ third goal of the game, James O?Rouke profiting from more ill-discipline by the Italians, his free-kick from the left hand side of the box dispatched into the bottom corner of the near post with a perfectly measured bending strike.
Capezzano clawed the way back into the game two minutes from half-time with a seemingly obvious off-side goal, Bigazzi scoring with a similar strike to his first of the match.
Although the first half was a fairly even affair, Tigers came out roaring in the second half. The brilliant build-up to each chance was brilliant on the eye but it wasn?t till the 65th minute that the domination turned into goals.
A brilliant run and through ball by Sasa Macura put Osman Kose in on goal. The nimble mid-fielder was dragged down in the area with a penalty awarded. After a few deliberations, Macura stepped up to the spot and lashed the ball into the bottom corner giving the opposition keeper no chance.
Macura became more and more involved as the match wore on. An exciting run by the youngster opened gaps in the Italian defence. He fed an on-rushing Matt Costantini who kept his head when going around his man and cutting the ball back to a waiting Casali, who slotted the chance from close range beyond the goal-keeper at the second attempt.
Sydney Tigers rounded off the scoring with a brilliant team goal in the last five minutes of the match. A turn-over by the Italians allowed Costantini to surge forward. His wide ball to Kevin Oliveira was played into man-of-the-match Macura. Macura surged past three players and went to the bye-line, his perfectly waited cut back finding the un-marked Kose who drove his shot into the bottom corner to finish the game with a 6-2 scoreline.
