Mr Spencer is entering a football team in October?s seventh edition of the world?s largest multi-sport event, of which ABC Local Radio is the official radio partner.
Open to everyone rather than just elite athletes, the Games will see 25,000 people from more than 100 countries compete across 28 sports at 72 Sydney venues.
To enter the Games people need only meet their sport?s minimum age, which ranges between 25 and 35. The football competition is open to people aged 30 and over.
Mr Spencer, who will recruit football players from listeners to his high-rating ABC Local Radio breakfast show, is looking forward to competing on the world stage.
?We can?t all be world champions but we sure as hell can have a shot at the world championship. Bring on the World Masters Games in Sydney,? Mr Spencer said.
Already Mr Spencer has made his first backroom appointment, with well known football personality Andy Harper agreeing to act as his team?s star mentor.
Mr Harper, who made 321 National Soccer League appearances, played football at the 2002 Games and describes it as one of the best experiences of his life.
?There?s something ever so special about this event. I loved every minute of the 2002 Games and I can?t wait for the 2009 Games to kick off,? Mr Harper said.
In announcing ABC Local Radio?s media partnership, Games Chair Margy Osmond says that the broadcaster?s unparalleled reach will help raise the event?s profile.
?Initiatives such as Adam Spencer entering a football team are sure to inspire many people to get involved in the Sydney 2009 World Masters Games,? Ms Osmond said.
